Hi All.

My first post here. I gave GMAT the day before yesterday and got 730(Q49, V40, IR 8). I am looking for pursuing my phd in consumer behavior.
My profile is - 2012 - Mechanical engineering with 8.54 CGPA from KIIT University
2014 - PGDM in Marketing with 5.96 CGPA from MDI, Gurgaon
44 months of work experience as a Product Marketing Manager and Business manager and at present working with The Times of India Group

I understand that SOP plays a very important role in final selection. What do you think are the chances of getting into some top 40 schools for the course and should I apply to top 10?

Well... A PhD is a bit of a different game than an MBA... Your base work and GMAT will be factors, but there are two other vital factors that will influence:
1. Publications
2. Teaching experience

Because these are the essences of a PhD program.

Also, it depends on what your proposed dissertation will be and how you can match that specifically with a faculty member of the school.

So there are many more factors here. If you have some good publications/teaching, then yeah... go for the Top schools, if not.. then let's see...

A few perspectives for you to consider xnet:
  1. - The overall profile contours look good. However it will be important to understand your PGDM performance - was that on a scale of 10? If yes, you'll have to explain some because academics play a pretty important role here.

    - Not directly relevant, but the post here may be useful to read.

    - The post here will help you get a hang of the overall process involved.
Hope this helps some.
