Profile Evaluation help needed

by dec.dream » Wed Sep 27, 2017 8:10 am
Hello,

Please evaluate my profile and suggest the best B-school options in Europe and/or the US.

Objective: A management program in the US or Europe (preferably with scholarship)

26 year old Male from India with Engineering background

Work-Experience
3 years experience in data analytics and market research in a leading Analytics firm in India (Promoted in 2 years)
Currently running an agro-based business which was started 2 years back. (Indirect value: Providing employment to women in rural areas and supporting farmers livelihood)

Extra-curriculars
Worked 1 year (Weekends) as a teacher and community fund raiser for a non-profit
Led college chess team

GMAT: 650 (Planning to retake the GMAT, not sure though)

Why MBA:
International Exposure
Peer to peer Learning
Simultaneous business development and sales for my business (Europe and the US are major markets for our products)
Access to funding
Potential Business Partners or Co-founders

Post-MBA Goals:
To scale the current business and make it self-sustainable
To start a tech firm

Which schools would fit my objective? I am clueless. Kindly help.

Thanks for reaching out. You have some interesting work and professional goals- sounds like your mission of social enterprise is quite sincere. Your current GMAT score makes some of the schools with the best social enterprise in US- Yale, Kellogg, Fuqua, and Booth potentially out of reach- but you might still consider some excellent programs at Georgetown, Babson, Carnegie Mellon, U Colorado, Kelley and for Europe look at Oxford.

With a 650 as an Indian applicant, have no doubt: retake!

If you want to know why, I'd suggest having a look at these two articles:

Can you please give me a feedback with a hypothetical score of 700. I think that will be the best score i would be able to get if i retake the GMAT. By what you have mentioned in the above article, it seems impossible to get an admission at any decent school.

Consider the following points dec.dream:
  1. - Your work experience in Analytics will be very useful; assuming the brand is good. The transition into the agro business will have to be explained well in terms of continuity. It is also not clear as to how long you've been doing this (2 years? or less?).

    - As shared by others, the GMAT is definitely going to be a potential hurdle. It will be important to also understand the brand/performance during undergrad. The definition of decent really varies. Look at this story about a 580 GMAT we had recently.

    - From a social angle, the list here might be a good starting point.
Hope this sparks a few more thoughts.

Sure dude.
With a 700 I'd say your range would be approximately in the 15-30 of US News and world Report rankings, if your application rocks and your LORs are super solid.

It's good that you are specific and prett sure about te post MBA goals and also you carry an interesting work experience. Yes GMAT is at a lower side but its just not the number's game bit the over all profile matters. While assessing your application, top b-schoolslooks for people who have demonstrated leadership qualities in their professional or personal lives. Leadership qualities don't necessarily mean leading teams - they could also mean the initiatives you had taken, your achievements, impact-orientation and career progression.

Considering 650 GMAT, below mentioned are some of the b-schools you should consider while applying.

Texas A&M University Mays Business School
Southern Methodist University Cox School of Business
IESE Business School
University of Rochester Simon School of Business
Carnegie Mellon University Tepper School of Business
US, NTU and Yale University - Yale School of Management.

Please free to reach us out on +91 9980044412 for free profile evaluation from top b-schools alumni like INSEAD, Wharton, Tuck. You can also evaluate your profile by using our ingenious tool called B-School Selector tool by clicking on the below mentioned link.

B-School selector is an intelligent B-Schools shortlisting tool designed by team of expert consultants graduated from Ivy League B-Schools. This tool provides the list of B-Schools where you have fair chances of getting an admission based on certain parameters like, GMAT Score, Work Experience, International Work Experience and Academic Scores.

Dec Dream.... I have to be honest here- I don't see a lot of scholarship options for an Indian Male going to US B schools on a 650 GMAT. But that being said, there is always a school out there so I'd look beyond the top 20 here. In fact- a school like Babson and here's a look at their class profile: https://www.babson.edu/admission/graduat ... files.aspx and you can see that for this program you ARE above the avg for GMAT so that would be a good place to start and they have a great entrepreneurial environment there. So I would encourage you to look at programs that can help you achieve your goals and don't worry so much about the rankings because there are some great programs out there that fall under the radar but still have very happy graduates- I think Babson in one of these. Best wishes to you. And if you want to know more about how Stratus can help, reach out to us for a free consult at this link: https://stratusadmissionscounseling.com/free-consult/
