Undergraduate Transcripts

by thmbacandidate » Mon Jul 31, 2017 9:52 pm
Hi All,

I am applying to Stanford and HBS Round 1 this year. Among many other questions I have is this:

I spent a year at a University prior to transferring to the US Naval Academy. At USNA you have to do all 4 years no matter what and I didn't have any classes from my previous University transfer to USNA for credit.

My grades at USNA were significantly stronger than at the previous University.

I am an older applicant (32) - spent the past decade flying F-18s and F-35s in the Navy.

Stanford requests that you list all education you have had since high school. It is unclear to me whether transcripts are required for work that did not contribute to your degree (Though I will have to provide ALL transcripts should I get in). Should I:

A.) List both schools and provide both transcripts? B.) List both schools but only provide USNA transcript (I have no problem providing official transcript if I get in, I just don't want it to negatively affect the application) C. Only list USNA (The other university was in 2003-2004 and seems irrelevant)?

Note, my GMAT was excellent so I feel confident in the admissions board having faith in my academic abilities.

Thanks!

Hey dude,
So normally I would say B. In terms of grades and so on usually they will just go with the transcript of your school where you got your diploma and then rely on their system of how they allowed you to transfer credits.

Buuuut small caveat - for things like this, don't ever ask anyone but the school! Each school has it's own internal policies and they can sometimes be different, but basically, normally, yep, that's how it works!

Other than that, seems like you have a mighty good profile!

I do have a bunch of questions for you if you would like an evaluation:
What do you do? How quickly have you advanced? Do you have any leadership? What are your great achievements? Do you have notable community service or extra curriculars? What did you learn from your military experience? What are your best stories? Why did you wait so long to apply? And what are your short and long-term goals?

All of these will play important roles in your evaluation.
Best,
Jon

Hi there, first of all thank you for your service to our country!
I think it is best that you speak to the school you are applying to for a straight answer. Typically I take them at their word when they say "all" education since high school, but given that you were not able to transfer your credits I can see why you might seek clarification.
Good luck!

Normally, schools request that you submit transcripts for all degree bearing programs so I would follow that guidance without further guidance from Stanford. I would however recommend you reach out to Stanford for clarification, this is a simple question that you could probably get answered via email. Also, I think the potential negative impact would be low, especially given the limited time you spent at the school
