Hi all!

Bara Sapir from City Test Prep (Test Prep New York/Test Prep San Francisco). We've been supporting students' reading performance on the GMAT and GRE, quite differently in the test prep landscape...so wanted to pop on here to let y'all know that if your time management is an issue or your RC scores are a bit lackluster-there is help! Even if English is not your native language!

(You can beeline to our speed reading site, here: https://citytestprep.com/mindflow-workshops/ or read below for additional information and a link to find out your reading speed!)

Whether you consider speed reading too-good-to-be-true or a 'quick fix', it could actually be a game changer for your test-taking performance. Over the past 14 years and hundreds of students taking our GMAT/GRE mindful speed reading workshop, Mindflow, they've increased their reading speed up to 5x and improved their performance an average of 13% (on just the reading comprehension (not including the positive impact this has had overall on their tests). Speed reading might be something to consider especially if you find yourself in any of the scenarios....Do you....
  • - - tend to read the essays extremely closely and don't have enough time to answer all the questions?
    - - lack the time to complete the entire Verbal Section?
    - - perform less than how you feel you should .... especially with regards to reading?
    - - tend to read essays, lose your place then have to start the essay all over again?
    - - read with a voice in your head?
-- get tripped up over essay vocabulary, fixating on how to pronounce strange words or big numbers?
-- lose time on the Verbal section due to slow reading?
If you answered 'yes' to any one of these, you'll benefit by taking inventory and potentially upgrading your reading prowess and performance.

Newsflash: managing time is especially important on high-stakes timed tests....and an optimal way to best manage time is to increase reading speed without compromising comprehension.

While many may assume reading GRE and GMAT essays sniffing out all details should be one's MO, it's actually not the most effective way to move through these question sets. Typically, 80% of RC test answers are derived from about 20% of what you read. It's extremely difficult to get a hold on all the details and completely not necessary. Still, move too slow through the essay and you may not finish. Move too fast and you may miss something important. And at any point, rushing through and picking the wrong answer is definitely not advisable or desired.

So, if your goal is to read test essays at just the right speed (Goldilocks-like timing) and best answer questions, speed reading might be your solution . So, what are you waiting for? How fast do you want to read?

First, determine what your speed is! You can go https://citytestprep.com/tests/ to do so. The average reader reads 150-250 words per minute. This is true for most people: politicians, teachers, judges, and the checkout person at the grocery store. When taking a high stakes test, like the SAT, GMAT, GRE, or LSAT, reading at 'average' speed will typically not always provide enough time to read through the essay and/or answer the test questions conscientiously as you might like. If you double your speed, however, which is super easy to do, you'll have more time to answer questions which is what you're getting credit for; and this, my friends, is the gospel of speed reading.

With various options to learn how to speed read, from 10-week courses to youTube videos and DIY books - - consider City Test Prep's online mindful speed reading clinic, MindFlow, that focuses on speed reading for the GRE and GMAT where you learn how to best read and leave the 4 - 5 hour class increasing your speed (up to 5x) and improving your GRE or GMAT Reading Comp performance, to throw into the mix. We're the only company to seriously address the needs of the GRE/GMAT test taker.
