I took a Kaplan online "practice test" today and had some really weird observations that don't make sense to me:
1. I got all questions correct in the quant section and was given a score of 49. The questions were not that difficult and I'm wondering if this was a CAT or not? Even so how can I get 49 if I got all right?
2. The question types were not mixed. So I got a bunch of PS followed by a bunch of DS. For the verbal I got 15 or so SC, followed by some CR, and ending with 3 RC passages.
I took this exam after purchasing the Kaplan premier book and registering online. Am I missing something here? I thought Kaplan CATs were tougher and this didn't feel like a CAT at all.
Unusual Observations from Kaplan CAT/Practice Test

You said you got all of the math questions correct? If you did well on the verbal, take a GMAT prep test and then register for the real exam, you should kill it.

I have done all MGMAT CATs and both PowerPreps. Got in the 700-770 range on those. I was supposed to give the exam yesterday but missed my appointment coz I forgot to carry my passport. But I don't think the Kaplan test I did was hard at all compared to MGMAT or PowerPrep which is what confuses me. I just want to make sure I'm doing the Kaplan CATs and not something else? I really want to give a shot at the Kaplan CATs before my rescheduled exam and this didn't feel like a CAT at all even though it was one of their 4 online exams.

The tough CATs from Kaplan are the ones in the CD, which is available with Kaplan premier programming. The test available for free on their website is not adaptive.

Actually, my post was a little premature. It turned out that the first test online was not a CAT but the remaining ones were. The first test was non-adaptive and more like a practice set but the remaining tests were CATs. The online CATs are a better source than the CD because they are updated whereas the CDs are static.
