Underlying assumption CR

by gmatmachoman » Sat Aug 08, 2009 3:15 am
Superficially ,today’s problems with the abuse of illegal drugs such as heroin and cocaine resemble the problems of alchol abuse durig the 1920’s when many people kept drinking in spite of Prohibition. There is, however , a significant difference. The use of drugs such as heroin and cocaine has never been a wide spread ,socially accepted practice among most middle-class, otherwise law abiding Americans.

An underlying assumption of the passage is that,

a.during prohibition, drinking of alchol was commonly accepted amomg most Americans
b.as long as drugs are available, they will be used despite laws to the contrary
c.most Americans consider heroin and cocain to be in the same category as alchol.
d.in a democracy, laws must be based on the fundamental beliefs and values of the majority of citizens
e.American popuar opinion has always been molded primarily by the values of the middle class.

A for me as well.

duongthang, The conclusion here is

"There is, however , a significant difference, between abuse of illegal drugs such as heroin (recent issue) and cocaine and the problems of alchol abuse (yesteryears)"
