R works for 36 hours. (Finishes 1/36 th of a job in 1 hr)
S works for 18 hrs. (Finishes 1/18 th of a job in 1 hr)

Hence R finishes - 1/18th of a job in 2 hrs
S finishes - 1/9 th of a job in 2 hrs

Let the machines be x in number.

x/9 + x/18 = 1

Solve for x.

x = 6
