1)In the mid-1920's the Hawthrone Works of the western electric company was the scene of an intensive series of experiments that would investigate changes in working conditions as to their effects on workers' performance
A:that would investigate changes in working conditions as to their effects on workers' performance.
b:investigating the effects that changes in working conditions would have on workers' performance.
c:for investigating what the effects workers' performance are that changes in working conditions would cause.
d:that the investigated changes in working conditions effects on workers' performance.
e:to investigate what the effects changes in working conditions would have on workers' performance
IMO D BUT OA B
2)The yield of natural gas from Norway's troll gas feeld is expected to increase annually until thear 2005 and then to stabilize at six billion cubic feet a day, which will allow such an extraction at least for 502years' production.
A:2005 and then to stabilize at six billion cubic feet a day, which will allow such an extraction at least for 502years' production.
B:2005 and then to stabilize at six billion cubic feet a day,an extraction rate that will allow at least.
C:2005 and then stabilizing at six billion cubic feet a day with such an extraction rate at the least allowing.
D: 2005,then stabilizing six billion cubic feet a day, allowing such an extraction rate for at least.
E: 2005,then stabilizing at six billion cubic feet a day, which will allow such an extraction rate for at least.[/u]
IMO E OA B

The context is to investigate the effects of X (changes brought to working conditions) on Y (worker's performance). (i couldn't put this in much simpler way )golu23 wrote:1)In the mid-1920's the Hawthrone Works of the western electric company was the scene of an intensive series of experiments that would investigate changes in working conditions as to their effects on workers' performance

If you get that right there is no better option than B expressing clearly.
A - as to their effects is wrong
C - effects workers' performance are that changes in working conditions - too wordy and not clear
D - investigated changes in working conditions effects on workers' performance. - this changes the intended meaning, moreover its not clear.
E - to investigate what the effects changes - wrong. Word placement what effects the changes is the right one
IMO B - More concise & clear in meaning.

Expected to do two things - to increase ... and then to stabilize - C D E are out.golu23 wrote:2)The yield of natural gas from Norway's troll gas feeld is expected to increase annually until thear 2005 and then to stabilize at six billion cubic feet a day, which will allow such an extraction at least for 502years' production.

A - which seems to refer to day - not clear - wrong
IMO B.

Question 1 imo B
In the mid-1920's the Hawthrone Works of the western electric company was the scene of an intensive series of experiments - in this sentence we already know what was going on at Hawthrone Works hence we do not need "that" as the following information is non-essential. therefore, A and D are out
C doesn't even make proper sense
E same as C
question 2
imo B
The yield of natural gas from Norway's troll gas feeld is expected to increase annually until thear 2005 and then to stabilize at six billion cubic feet a day, which will allow such an extraction at least for 502years' production.
red marks parallelism
C,D and E out
between A and B - B (concise + in A ,which modifies day which is irrelevant)
