To Understand GMAT format and Pattern

by amitifs » Thu Aug 09, 2018 1:44 am
Hi All,

I am new to GMAT preparartion and want to understand the basic structure of the GMAT; the sections, the duration, the number of questions, the scoring mechanism, and so on.

Also, i will be grateful if somebody tell me section wise books to read and mock test paper to attempt to get score around 720-730.

As I am in ERP consulting line from 9 years, i think 720 score might be enough to get into good B-School like INSEAD etc. If anybody also guide in this aspect, i really appreciate.

Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards

Hi Amit,

To start, you can learn about the GMAT and get some free practice materials at www.mba.com.

Since it sounds like you're just beginning your studies, then it would be a good idea to take a FULL-LENGTH practice CAT Test; you can take 2 for free at www.mba.com. If you want to do a little studying first, so that you can familiarize yourself with the basic content and question types, then that's okay - but you shouldn't wait too long to take that initial CAT. That score will give us a good sense of your natural strengths and weaknesses and will help provide a basis for comparison as you continue to study. A FULL CAT takes about 3.5 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time to take it in one sitting. Once you have those scores, you should report back here and we can come up with a study plan.

I'd like to know a bit more about your timeline and goals:
1) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
2) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
3) Going forward, how many hours do you think you can consistently study each week?

Hi Amit,

I'm glad you reached out, and I'm happy to help. Since you are just starting out, you should first ulr=https://www.mba.com/us/the-gmat-exam/abo ... -exam.aspx] familiarize yourself with the GMAT [/url] and then take an official MBA.com practice exam .

Once you complete the exam, please report back here with your score breakdown, and I can provide some further advice.
