GMAT exam result: 620 (Q 44, V 32)

My mock tests scores:

MGMAT 1 - 610 (Q 42, V 34)
MGMAT 2 - 580 (Q 39, V 32)
GMATprep 1 - 650 (Q 44, V 35)
MGMAT 3 - 640 (Q 44, V 34)
GMATprep 2 - 650 (Q 45, V 34)

Actual exam - 620 (Q 44, V 32)

I prepared with MGMAT strategy guides, practiced with OG 13 and the quant/verbal review guides, and after getting the scores in first 2 MGMAT mock tests joined the EMPOWERgmat course to improve my quant primarily. Then re-did the OG 13 guide with the new strategy learnt.

The quant on the actual exam was the same level as the GMATprep but I found the verbal to be quite difficult; 2 out of 4 RC passages were high in difficulty, 90% of the CR questions were in a different format (none of the straight strengthen or weaken questions).

I was targeting a score of 650-700. Do the experts here think I should try again? Right now, I can't seem to think of a way to overcome my weaknesses in quant, but if any one can suggest a 30-60 day study plan that will target my weak areas in quan and lift my scores by 50 points or so, please let me know.

Hi Josh,

Can you please let me know what was the type of CR questions that you were asked if they were not weakening and strengthening question? Where they fill in the blanks types where the stimulus end with the fill in the blanks and then you are supposed to chose a option ... Or whether the question asked you to asses or judge the validity of an argument ..... Or. Resolve the paradox. .... Or some other type ...

Plz let me know that . An increase of some 50 points with improvement in verbal alone is possible with your score if you are so paranoid about quantitative section.you can maintain your quant at the level it is and improve your verbal section ending up with the score you desire.

Since you mentioned in your post the RC were tough did you feel at some point in test that you fell short of time and therefore you have to rush towards the end ?

I would love to hear from your side.

Hello abhasjha,

Timing was never really an issue for me, in the mock test or the actual exam. I don't really remember the exact kind of problems for CR but I can tell you there were just 2 strengthen/weaken questions and one complete the argument question. Also, some (close to 50%) of the answer choices were very close to each other making selection harder. I also think I was guilty of lack of concentration in the verbal section.

I want to re-take the GMAT end of February but am unable to formulate an effective strategy since I have already burnt through MGMAT books and OG13.
