Seeking Advice

by wpreston86 » Thu Nov 15, 2012 7:58 pm
My dilemma is whether or not to apply to MBA programs now or to wait until next year. Also, I am unsure which programs to target and if it is worthwhile to retake the GMAT. Currently, I have 2 years of post graduate experience in Financial Services and an additional 6 months in Commercial Real Estate Finance. My undergraduate degree was in management from a top 40 program. I had a 3.0 GPA and scored 650 on the GMAT (41 V and 37 Q). My ultimate goal is to become a successful entrepreneur, however I am seeking an M.B.A. to increase my business acumen and to expand my network. I am interested in Finance/Entrepreneurship concentrations but I am open to other options. Any advice/direction anyone is willing to offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your time.

In you case I would probably wait for another year, but it is all up to you and depends on school in a great deal. Most of the schools require you to have more than 3 years of experience, and if you retake you GMAT and score more than 650 there is a greater chance for you to get a higher scholarship. I know it is hard to wait, but take that as an opportunity to get to better school next year.

If you think that you are prepared well right now you can try in this year. But it seems to me that you are too busy now. So, if you wish you can try in the next year. Considering the situation it will not create a bad effect on your career I think.
