How did you know that AB and BC formed the straight line AC? From the diagram, it looks like a straight line, but my understanding is that we can't always assume the diagram is to scale.

Thx for answering my question. I'm hoping that you're right that currently the GMAT does specify which one is greater. I'm thinking that since this question is retired, maybe it was taken out of the live tests for this reason.

I'm planning on retaking this exam in January. As for the applications, right now I'm probably going to push them off. I know the later rounds are more competitive, but I figured I have a better shot in a later round with hopefully a higher score than I do at this point.
