I would say it's not that big of an issue if you handle it correctly. If you tell the recruiter that you'd rather run your own company but want to learn on their dime first, then obviously yes it would hurt. The bigger question they would have is how well you could adjust to a big organization doing...

I think it depends. I interviewed and was accepted with long-ish (ear length) hair and a beard and I didn't have any problems. However I talked mostly about entrepreneurship, so I imagine if I wanted to go into investment banking it would be a different story.

I agree with Jim. You are a very unique applicant with a very unique story and have a degree from a great school. I don't see why you couldn't get into whatever program you want with the right essay, GPA and GMAT.

@pinchharmonic: Sorry for the late response! I must have missed your post while I was on my honeymoon and moving to Ithaca. I worked my startups into my application as an accent to highlight my uniqueness. My day job had enough pedigree and rigor to sure up any doubts related to my 640 GMAT, and I p...

I think with your background, a lower GMAT score won't be as dangerous for you. With a great application and personal history, a 640, while not the best, won't put you out of contention. I was recently admitted into Cornell and waitlisted at Berkeley with a 640, an undergrad in econ, working at a we...

Since this is an MBA forum, I'm not sure you'll find many people who know the answer to your question, however that said, I do not believe MPAs are as competitive as MBAs, so a 660 may gain you admits into better schools than it would if you were applying for an MBA.

UF is a strong regional school, but online programs are not viewed in the same light as in-person MBAs because you miss out on many aspects of the degree, namely network building. Also, they do not attract the same caliber of student so the connections you make coming out of an online MBA will argua...

I agree with hk. Your profile qualifies you for many top schools - you should arrange campus visits while class is in session and things will become abundantly clear. Good luck!

It looks like you're in a predicament. Any decent program, FT, PT or EMBA, will require a strong GMAT. If your undergraduate scores are strong enough in the right subjects (i.e. straight As as a physics major) from the right school (top 50ish), you may be able to get an admit, but all admission comm...

Congratulations! I had a similar situation, a disappointing 640 after doing better in practice tests and a 3.1 GPA. Waitlisted at Haas for 3 rounds and ultimately dinged, but got an admit from Cornell. I pushed the application deadlines with the GMAT and couldn't retake for another month after my 64...

I personally feel that the class is a far better value than any set of books. I went through all the MGMAT books and only got a 30 point improvement (obviously results vary). I signed up for a class and improved 100pts. Well worth it IMO.

Mayura: your quant score is very competitive, however all top programs would be worried about your verbal. With a 21, you're in the 23rd percentile and all adcoms would be worried about your ability to communicate with your fellow students and future colleagues in english. I would focus on bringing ...

GPA isn't as big of an issue with PT as it is with FT. I applied and was waitlisted at Berkeley's PT program, and the 80% GPA range was 2.9 to 3.8, but required a stout GMAT (both roughly the same as NYU). I was invited to interview and the major piece of concern wasn't my 640 gmat or my 3.1 GPA, it...
