Leveraging Neuroscience for GMAT Performance

On another post, a few of us went on a tangent about exercise, sleep, and other neurologic factors that effect memory, learning, recall, and general GMAT performance. Since all of these factors are important for exceptional performance on exam day, I thought it sensible to repost that information un...

thulsy Bravo. Well done indeed. I read your New York Times article and then I looked into the several PubMed abstracts (I'd love to get my hands on the full article) referenced therein. As those whet my appetite for science, I found a few more on my own. I've listed the most interesting ones here. 1...

Ron, wow! Tremendous revelations here. I’m riveted. Yes, I, too, have become much too formulaic and inflexible in my thinking. You’re absolutely right in your assessment. So what’s the best way to implement the paradigm shift and stay sharp? Do you find that it’s much more valuable to study ...

Saana! Oh man! Something unexpected happened 1 hour before gametime. Through me completely off. I had no choice but to postpone. Too bad too, I felt so prepared. Let me know how yours goes? (And as a proportion of your total study, how much time are you putting into IR? Verbal? Quant?) Thanks.

x = a^3 taking 4th power of both sides.. x^4 = a^12 ... (1.) x= b^4 taking 3rd power of both sides.. x^3 = b^12 ... (2.) Now, dividing (1.) by (2.) we have- x = (a/b)^12 .. Here, a/b has to be an integer hence [C] is the correct choice. Shantanu, I love this explanation. You start with the statemen...

Q45 to Q48? Study tips for one week out?

Today is Monday, exactly one week from my test date. My goal has been to achieve a Q48 and I feel like I'm really close. My other practice quant scores (taken as full tests under normal conditions) have been 47, 44, 45. Also, took a GMATFocus and scored 49-44. Then yesterday, I took my last GMATPrep...

Yes, I completely concur with dimochka. Practicing taking the Computer Adaptive Exams is just as important as learning the priniciples tested. It's all about balance.

And when you get stuck, remember to breathe. That helps big time! :)

Finishing the IR section

Here's a thought. I've noticed that some IR questions (particularly the very math-intensive ones) take tons more time than others. In this respect, there's a real dichotomy between those that propel you along and those that bog you down. For someone who's been having trouble finishing IR (i.e., me),...

IR Discussion

The new IR section is out, but so far there isn’t the flurry of discussion I thought there’d be regarding study tips, timing strategy, and general comments. So in an effort to spur on the dialogue, here are few brainstorming questions to mull over: PREMISE: My limited exposure to IR has yielded ...

You just need to get your verbal up, so I wouldn't admit defeat just yet. I took the GMAT the first time last year and scored 700, Q43/V42. This is the strategy I used to score well in verbal: From what I remember, I focused primarily on the Sentence Correction section. I developed a strategy to qui...

Sadly, I'm in the same boat as you--so I'm hopping on this thread to follow the conversation as it emerges. So far, there doesn't seem to be the flurry of conversation about IR that I had anticipated. My experience so far in studying IR is that, frankly, this section is a total bear. Whereas I'm sco...

I have a similar story. I took the GMAT last March and, at the time, I was happy with my score of 700. Suffice it to say, I'm taking it again. I need a higher quant score. Since March, I've been putting in tons of hours. Something like 20-30 hours per week. But general study isn't enough. As soon as...

Please do not mistake my inquisitiveness for ineptitude. Quite the opposite. I am information gathering, and my inclination is to ask a lot of questions.

Thanks for your perspective.

If you have anything you'd like to add, please let me know. Thanks again.
