AABC can be arranged in 4!/2! ways - Is it because A is repeated twice ?

I blew this one.
If three-quarters of the seniors major in one of four subjects => 300 guys majored in one subject. Didn't quite understand that it's 300 distributed over 4 subjects.

E is the correct answer, but i thought it should be C. from statement 2, (m+v)^2 = 25. so, (m+v) = + or -5. from statement 1, mv=6. Since m and v are integers, they can be, 2 and 3 or 6 and 1, but only the values 2 and 3 satisfy the first statement. So, m+v = 5. So, both statements together are suf...

x/y < 2 From stem 1 x- y < 2 For this to be true both x and y have to be negative . If that's the case then 3x+2y is always < 17 - Sufficient. 2. y-x < 2 ; x<2y : For this to be true x is +ve and y is -ve always .. hence insufficient. Choose A. A simple one - but I got screwed never the less .. the modulus got me. I was like x > y when y > 0 and x > -(-y) when y < 0 .. so .. lesson learned

I took a different approach of picking numbers : Viz even and odd >6 as any number > 6 should be either odd or even.
Try with 7 - Eq 1 holds good.
Try with 8 - Still holds good.
Stop here. I'm not sure if this is the right way of doing this. DanaJ's approach is definitely better

Now that I think about it, I guess you are right. The only shortcut techniques I know of are backsolving and picking numbers. Quant Strategy
Having an engineering background, I hate to say that I score better in verbal than in Quant. Just took the MGMAT CAT 3 and got a 70th percentile in Quant and 77th percentile in Verbal.
