Re: In the figure above, the area of the parallelogram is

Area of parallelogram is base x height
To find the height, drop an altitude to the base. This would form a 30-60-90 triangle, so sides would be in the ratio 1: \(\sqrt{3}\) :2
Thus, \(\sqrt{3}\) :2 = h:8
h =4 \(\sqrt{3}\)

Area = 4 \(\sqrt{3}\) X 12
= 48 \(\sqrt{3}\)

Re: If \(r\) and \(s\) are integers, is \(r^2+s\) even?

The product rs can be odd only when both r and s are odd.
In such a case, \(r^2\) + s would be even, as the sq. of an odd number added to an odd number would be an even number
Thus A is sufficient
2nd option only mentions r is odd and nothing about s. Not sufficient.

Correct answer is thus A.

Re: Fractions/Ratios/Decimals

Neither statement is sufficient individually, that rules out options A, B and D
Both statements together are also not sufficient, as 1 option gives an absolute number whilst the other a ratio.
The correct answer is E.

Re: In 1984 a certain union had a total of 15,600 members. Was the percent increase in the total number of...

Option 1 gives the yearly increase in absolute numbers, so one can calculate the respective % increase for both years. Sufficient
Option 2 gives the total at the end of each of the 2 years; we can calculate the absolute increase/year from there. Sufficient.

The answer is thus D.

Re: The table shows the quantities of eggs, flour, and sugar used by a certain baker to make one cake of each of the thr

Total inventory - 24 eggs, 30 cups of flour, and 10 cups of sugar
Inventory used to make 2 angel food cakes and 1 devil's food cake - 15 eggs, 10 cups of flour and 4 cups of sugar
Quick calculation of the remaining inventory shows a max of 4 pound cakes can be made.

Re: For a set X containing n integers, is the mean even?

Let’s take option A first:
Consider the set {1,2,3,4}
Is the mean even? No
A is ruled out

Let’s take option B now:
Consider the set {2,2,4}
Is the mean even? No
B is out

Consider both together:
Set : {2,2,2,4}
Is the mean even? No
C is out

Thus , the correct answer is E.
