Good question Hemant - like a lot of English words, "yet" has a couple meanings. Among them are: Transition All indications are that the economy should be booming, yet the major stock indexes haven't moved. Period of Time Have you eaten lunch yet? You can combine them when there's a time f...

Be really careful with the "it changes the meaning!!" philosophy. For a few reasons: 1) Answer choice A is wrong approximately 80% of the time. There's nothing magic about the original sentence. So you should be very, very open to changing the original sentence. 2) Bad grammar often leads ...

Great question and, actually, the use of "an age" and "a time" describe pretty similar periods of time in those two questions which I think makes the context that much trickier. I'd look at it this way - "a time" represents exactly that, a time. Whereas "an age&quo...

Not to turn this into a pure marketing thread, but since the topic said Chicago I had to look. Two Veritas Prep Worldwide Instructor of the Year winners (Frankie and Kevin) teach for us in Chicago and I've always been particularly proud of our team there (I'm a Midwesterner so that matters to me and...

Thanks, guys - glad you're taking advantage of the Question Bank! And since the bank is my project let me shed a little more light on its features: -It is not adaptive, but it is collecting a lot of user information that can be helpful for you. Within the solution to each question you can see diffic...

Great stuff from the group and I'll just add that on this one your goals should be: 1) Pick numbers (like these guys did) that prove that the information is insufficient. This forces you to think strategically about which numbers to pick, which should lead you to: 2) Look for limits. 100 is the smal...

It looks like your mistake was that you calculated the sum of all the multiples of 15 in that range, but the question just wanted the sum of all the even multiples of 15 (so all the multiples of 30). If you went for: N = (600-300)/30 + 1 You should have had it. That tells you that there are 11 terms...

The most efficient way to do some number picking is to have a plan in advance, and that plan usually involves testing numbers with different properties. How do you do that effectively? 1) Look at the limits. Here they told you that x is positive, which means that x > 0. What are the closest number t...

You're right on, Hemant - we cannot assume here that gloves will come in pairs (and in baseball, players do only wear one glove). This one is one of mine - I wrote it for a tutoring student who needed to see some Matrix Box style questions in Data Sufficiency form, and since the classic setup for Ma...

Hey topperdoggle, Echoing Hemant's thoughts - all is not lost! Honestly...I've always hated the idea of taking a cold practice test to "see where you stand". There are just so many reasons that you could underperform, and all of those reasons are not created equal. Some reasons for underpe...

I know this one - it should read "Is m/102 an integer" or "Is m divided by 102 an integer).

Just to add to Mitch's spot on analysis, since this is one of mine. Currently less than 4% of users in the Veritas Prep Question Bank ( http://www.veritasprep.com/gmat-question-bank/ ) are getting this one right, with about 70% picking E. The main reasons, at least in my mind are: -Misdirection. The...

Hey, while you're talking about booking the test, this is timely so I might as well bring it up: Make sure that the name you use to register is the same as the name on your photo ID. I just heard another case yesterday about someone being turned away from the test center because he used his day-to-d...

Ah, great question. Unless the question says "a and b are digits " or somehow calls them out as individual digits and not full numbers, then ab is the product of a times b. Another thing to keep in mind - that "If ____ ≠ 0" in Data Sufficiency is almost always a disclaimer to m...

Hey rintoo, One thing you probably overlooked here is something the GMAT does frequently as questions get harder - they "hide" information in plain sight in the question stem. Here the question stem already says: y is a multiple of 14 (factors of 2 and 7) x is a multiple of 6 (factors of 2...
