It would be wrong then.If we make it were then I think there would be an agreement issue.The noun modified here is one of KLs and not just KLs.So we need WAS and not WERE.

IMO A.
We need to show the sequence of events-guns were sold earilier than the last week's event.So we need to use past perfect rather than present perfect ( have been) ,which makes it mean that guns are still being sold.

I feel E is wrong because ,the argument says that nonrenewable sources are risky because of the prices vary based on their availability.Since these are natural resources, there is no way for companies to increase the availability and thus stable the price and in turn reduce the risk.
