how long have you been out of that long-term job? when are you submitting applications? I left early this year and am applying round 2 at a number of top programs. My resume is solid and interesting, but i did just write an optional essay (somewhat long for optinal but don't have a choice) to discu...

Optional essay to discuss why I left my last job?

I'm sort of in a dilemma regarding the optional essay and need some advice. So I left my last job early this year afte bein there for 5+ years. Although i liked the job in many ways, I am not happy with the direction the industry is taking and also felt totally drained from the stress of the job. Af...

Obviously your top marks in AWA and IR are not going to hurt you; however, you're right that they'll only be helpful on the margins. I think the rule of thumb is that if they are too low they might leave the admissions folks questioning your abilities, but when they're high, they just brush them to...

Do AWA and IR scores even matter?

I just got my official score report today and got a 6 on AWA (90%) and 8 on IR (92%). My overall score is 740: 48Q, 44V. My quant score is a bit low for wharton/sloan/columbia, so i'm concerned but definitely am not retaking it. From what i've heard, adcom is not going to care about IR this year, wh...

Awesome. What do you think of the social scene at HBS? Is it really the "best two years of your life?"

I lived in one western avenue over the summer. I didn't like the dorm at all, mostly due to the location. But for students it's obviously super convenient.

I'm bumping this thread. I recently talked to shawn o'connor, founder of stratus prep, and am deciding whether to use stratus. Their statistical claim of 80% acceptance rate at wharton/columbia, 70% at booth/kellogg, and 60% at HBS, seems fishy to me. Now i'm not accusing them of outright fabricatio...

I'm in the exact same situation as well. Debating on whether i should apply to haas round 2 or wait for round 3. I'm currently working on columbia as well, but i think i can squeeze in haas. It seems like at haas, round 3 is at a slight disadvantage to round 2 since it's such a small class.

Booth FT vs PT

I'm curious to know if anyone has applied to booth part-time after getting dinged at the full-time program. The lady in the PT office said that if you don't get into FT you have to wait at least 6 months before applying to the PT program. I had wanted to re-apply to booth FT this year, but i'm worri...

Update: I took my GMAT this past week and got a 740: 48 quant, 44 verbal. I'm a bit disappointed since i was shooting for 760, but it's a good enough score that i don't have to retake it.

I'm wondering if i should submit both scores to schools. I've heard mixed thoughts on this.

How important is integrated reasoning?

I bombed my integrated practice questions, getting only 6 or 7 right out of 12. Some of them were dumb mistakes, but i'm having a hard time with time management and thus making a lot of careless errors. If the rest of my test goes well, will a low integrated score really hurt me?

Quick update: I took the GRE today and scored 165 quant, 162 verbal. I believe the percentiles corresponding to those scores are 92 and 89, although i'm not entirely sure. The ETS is constantly revising the percentile charts. The GRE verbal is more challenging than GMAT verbal. Lot of difficult voca...

My last 770 score was a 49 Quant and a 47 Verbal. So 49 and 49 might be a 780 although it depends - since the same scaled scores can vary in terms of total score by 10 points or so. Good luck! If a GMAT instructor such as yourself could not get 50+ on quant, that just shows how hard the quant secti...

The thesis has been proven that the first 5 questions can BREAK your score, but it cannot MAKE your score. That is the real problem with the way that some people state the first 10 questions theory. I actually had a student who had worked with another company come to me during the first day in clas...

Took another GMAT prep exam today. Got a 760 but with a much better quant score of 48 and a slightly lower verbal score of 47. I actually missed MORE questions on quant this time around than last but because i missed fewer questions at the beginning i was getting harder questions towards the end. I ...

If it helps you to know...I use that problem in Geometry classes all the time and very few people ever get it in 2 to 3 minutes. You are right that the formula does not seem to match up. You can use the 3rd side rule to know that the two sides must total a greater length than the one hypotenuse alo...
