Root problem

Does someone can help? I don't understand why we have to multiple x by 3 for the first quarter. I thought it would have been an addition instead. So that we would have 3+x for the first quarter. At the 9th quarter we would have had 9x instead of 3x to the 9th power. http://s17.postimg.org/ibwsrmkyj/...

You're right Rich, that's not necessary. My mistake.

Thanks.

Thanks Rich and Marty! Marty, Actually I tried to solve by using your method but got stuck with the quadratic equation. I got W2-2W+80=0, then (W-40)(W+2)=0. This is where I got stuck. instead I should have (W-10)(W+8). This is how I lose many points sometimes. And when I look at corrections, I see ...

Yes Marty, It makes sense.

I was not arguing about the image I was trying to understand. And Thanks again!

Now, I can clearly see that triangle 45-45-90 are such that 45 is opposite the shorter side. 45 is opposite the shorter side and 90 is opposite the hypotenuse.

Thanks Marty!

Hi Marty,

I thought measures of 30-60-90 triangle were such that short-long-hypotenuse. My understanding was that angles would be the way around if I'm referring to your picture.

So, is that false to think that 30-60-90 triangle as such that they are short-long-hypotenuse?

Thanks Marty!

Thanks Brent and David.

Brent, I like both of your approaches, but I prefer the second one.

Cheers!

Thanks Rich!

Can you detail the probability that NOT happening? Is that what gives 1/64?

Is that this way of thinking you apply... P(At least 1)=1-P(None)?

Thanks.

Usually I do not take full test as I know AWA and IR sections do no count in the gmat score, I just do quant and verbal.

I'll take just quant and verbal on Monday and apply what I'm working on.

Thanks Marty.

Hi Marty, Thank you very much for your advice. I really appreciate the time you spend writing down all those tips for me. And you do it every time I post such questions. I appreciate that. The most important thing that I'll keep in mind is that I have to slow down. Indeed, I've been noticing that ev...

Verbal Section

Hi David, Here is how I proceed for each type of question. For SC questions: I read all the sentence(s) and try to understand them before answering. Sometimes I recognize things like parallelism or verb tense issues and focus on those issues. For RC: I read the question stem first. I read the senten...

Hi Murray, Yes I used to do many practice questions in the OG 13 and did them quickly. I used a clock. Yes for Manhattan I used the guide. I feel more comfortable with CR, but the assessment report on Manhattan show that I have 56% of right answer on SC, 46% on CR and 39% right on RC. Though, I feel...
