The consensus is that MGMAT quant is harder than the actual GMAT, but verbal is a bit off from the real thing. Best strategy to study verbal is to focus on both OG guides and the GMATPrep tests. I don't think there's any strong reason not to use pronouns to refer to the author, but I'd use them sparingly, in order to maintain clarity and tone. And I would also recommend using "his or her," because while most readers probably wouldn't care one way or the other, you're right that i...

Kevin,
I agree that particple modifier can be used without a comma to modify a noun. But how is it ok to use it with a comma? Does it not work as an adverbial modifier whn used with comma?
