Just a quick question- Is it fine to refer the author as he? I don't think it would be held against you (I'm not certain, though). As far as I know it's technically correct when you don't know the gender of the author to default to he. Stylistically I think it's a bit old-fashioned (but this is rea...

Fabulous score, good job! I definitely know how it feels to run out of time in both sections!

You should retake if you think you can get some sleep :D If lack of sleep was the reason you did poorly on the verbal section that's something that's easy to fix. Especially if you think you can maintain your quant performance, if you have the time and the money it would be worth it if it means you ...

It's not that I didn't prep for verbal at all, I did before the first attempt. Not nearly so much as the math because I don't need to. Before the second time around I practiced verbal a little bit, at most an hour or two in the three days before I took the test. IMO almost no one can get a verbal sc...

I'm calling a truce with the GMAT...for now

I returned home from taking the GMAT for the second time not long ago. Here's what my two attempts look like: GMAT #1: 640 - Q:36 (43rd percentile), V:40 (89th percentile), AWA 6.0 GMAT #2: 650 - Q:35 (38th percentile), V:45 (99th percentile), AWA unknown (probably a 6) Sooooo LOPSIDED! And the seco...

It's a bad sign when you're going through the GMAT and you feel like you're doing well, or you feel like it's easy (or becoming easier as you go along). Lots of people that do really well feel like the questions are very challenging, even that they might be bombing it, because they're answering ques...

Awesome, that's almost exactly what I got on my first attempt (640, Q36/V40). I'd be very happy if my second attempt is as successful as yours. Can you elaborate a bit on what exactly you did to raise your quant score?

Posting largely to keep up with this thread because I'm also better at verbal than quant...though your first diagnostic is higher than mine was (590, and later on I got a 640 on my first actual GMAT).

So good luck, I'm interested in seeing where you go from here!

From what you've said your practice scores are significantly higher than your actual scores. Why is this? Do you have issues with test anxiety, are your practice tests not taken in an environment similar to the actual test? You should try to figure out what's going on there, because if it's just tes...

I haven't taken any MGMAT CATs myself, but I've heard people say that the quant on those CATs is harder than the real GMAT.

People usually agree that the official practice CATs GMAC provides are the best indicator of how you will score on the real test. This doesn't hold true for everyone, however.

Congrats!! Very inspiring, I particularly enjoy reading the strategies of people who are weaker on quant than verbal (like me). If you have any particular timing tips, please let me know. I also have timing issues.

How horrible, I'm sure that was nerve-racking and disheartening. I can't even stand it when I get distracted by things when I'm doing practice problems, much less the real thing. Your first inclination to call them is the correct one - hopefully they will allow you to reschedule. Did you complain at...

There are a lot of people who have successfully combined a class and self-study. It's really up to each individual. I've taken a class and really enjoyed being kept on a schedule with the classes, homework, and CAT assignments. Classes are good for showing you approaches to problems that you will no...

If you feel you can do better on the GMAT with some study or by taking a class, then do it and retake the test.
