exponent properties:

x^a + x^a = 2(x^a)

so

5^5 + 5^5 + 5^5 + 5^5 + 5^5 =

5(5^5) = 5^1(5^5)

=5^6

another way to look at it is:

x + x = 2(x)

When I took the exam, it took like 10 seconds.. you raise your hand, the proctor, sitting behind a glass window, will see you and come with a clean slate of paper. Very quick in my opinion!
