You have to show a wide knowledge of the area you would like to study, as well as a specialized understanding of the relationships between what you want to focus on and the value of such research. Being able to e...

Thanks mayo. I actually found out at work. I just saw "Aleksandr, Congratulations..." and then my vision went blurry and my heart jumped into the middle of my throat. I don't think I have been this excited since about the age of 4, when my parents came home and told me that I would be goin...

Thank you very much Gabriel. It was a long journey - at times very disheartening and difficult - but I just kept on pulling. I have seen a lot of people posting different items on this forum that were motivational in one way or another. I don't know if you have ever read "The Gulag Archipelago&...

I am sure that you were very careful in your selection. By "all over the place" I mean that there is no specific geographical area. For example, some people choose just Europe, or those who choose US schools might choose just those in the Mid-West or Northeast, etc. At any rate, hope you h...

Hey yvich, I was in a similar position. I graduated with a sociology degree. Given what I was interested in I was split between MBA and MAC, but ultimately decided on the MAC because of the extent of specialization I would gain (it is also a 1 year degree vs. 2 for MBA). In your essays, I would sugg...

Laptop/Computer/Notebook for B-School
I was researching information about laptops, today, and ended up spending about 6 hours on research/building/buying my machine. I am curious to find out what machines others bought, for what reason(s), and how/where you researched the information. Hopefully this will come of use to others. By the wa...

I should have probably posted my profile right away: GPA: 3.79 (overall), 3.97 (major area of study) GMAT: 640 (1st), 640 (2nd) - spent 6 months studying for the test; went from 490 to 700s on CATs, but was not able to repeat on actual exam. Work experience: 20 months * 5 months = internship at an H...

Your work experience would probably help, though I am not sure how much leadership you have gained through your professional work. Maybe there are other areas in which you have exhibited leadership: extracurricular, volunteering, etc. Accounting classes would show your commitment to the career track...

Kenan-Flagler; Boston College; Bentley University
Just found out that I have been admitted to the Kenan-Flagler MAC program. Given that this is my dream school, I am quite happy. I have not yet received the official admissions letter, and so I cannot comment on the financial package. However, I am very excited. Still waiting for the BC and BU resul...

I liked that book, but I found it too geographically deterministic. Collapse was also interesting, but was environmentally deterministic. However, there is something to learn from both.
Enjoy!

Business Dynamics by Jon Sterman If you are serious about truly understanding the evolution, dynamics, cycles, flows, declines, etc. of business, then you must read this work. I have been going back to this work for the last three years, almost. It is a remarkable text. http://web.mit.edu/jsterman/w...
