My studying secret weapon!
Hey everyone, I just had to share this. As I have mentioned, I am an executive and manage a team of 9 people. They all know I am taking the GMAT (I whine incessantly about it!) and they've even started a GMAT pool on me ... the person who most accurately guesses my score gets to pick the treat of th...

I agree about the practice tests. You have to treat them seriously. I even went so far as to call the testing center to find out if I would have scratch paper or a dry erase board (as all of the study books were saying). As it turns out, they use neither. They use the laminated sheets with a marker....

Well, this is my best section because I have an English degree and have spent almost 20 years as a professional communicator. My advice would be to review the grammar basics. Most study books tell you what kind of errors SC questions are trying to test (e.g., subject/verb agreement, idioms, etc.). L...

What day is your test? Mine is next Thursday, April 3, so it sounds like we're on a similar schedule. I feel like I've run out of material as well (and I bought pretty much every study resource out there!). I am spending the next couple of days reading through the review section of 800score.com. I w...

Leonard, excellent post! That's what I was trying to convey in a post last week ... that I will not put too much emphasis on the GMAT because it's only one piece of the entire application (and I am very strong in all other aspects of my application). Blogger, if I scored a 760 on the GMAT, I would t...

T-minus 10 Days!
Hi everyone! Well, my GMAT exam is 10 days away now (Thursday, April 3). I have been studying for 9 weeks, so I'm pretty much ready (well, as ready as I'm going to be). As of last week, I have only been working a few refresher problems ... no full blown studying anymore. I think I will continue with...

Ritz, no, this isn't about not trying, it's about not putting unnecessary pressure on myself. I've seen too many people on this site put too much emphasis on the GMAT. It's only ONE aspect of the application process. I choose not to obsess about it anymore. I'd LOVE to score a 700 on the test. Will ...

Yes, I could easily do the executive MBA program (and no GMAT ... woo hoo!!!), but it's $40,000 more expensive than the part-time program and the class schedule is very rigid. Given the demands of my job, I need more flexibility with the classes. As for time management, yes, I have honed my skills i...

A Big Fat Reality Check!
Okay, so here's the thing. I started studying for the GMAT about 8 weeks ago. That means 2-3 hours every evening after work and anywhere from 4-8 hours each day on the weekend. I have taken this seriously and have studied just about every resource out there. I have taken the various practice exams 6...

Okay, I just finished my first GMATPrep test and am feeling really good about it. I scored a 580, which I'm actually quite happy with as a starting point. The math section seemed very reasonable to me, and of the questions I got wrong, I made small, stupid mistakes on many of them, so my score could...

Enginpasa1, I would suggest you go to a bookstore and get a study book on word problems. There are a few out there (non-GMAT related) that will show you how to read a problem and translate that into an equation. They'll actually completely break down each question to show you how to solve it. They'r...

Jimmy23, I haven't done the GMATPrep simulations yet (starting them this weekend), but I have completed two of the five tests from 800score.com. I haven't been all that happy with those tests. Some of the questions just seemed ridiculous to me and I don't know how closely they mirror actual GMAT que...

Hi Southhobart, Can I ask you another question? (Or anyone who can help me!) With 4 weeks left until test day, I have started taking the computer-based practice tests (none of the full-blown simulated GMAT tests until this weekend). Last night I did a timed practice test of the Quant section on 800s...
