Hey, it is written explicitly in the question stem that the flags need to be in a particular order. So, whenever order is important, you need to use permutation and not combination. Many times it will be written that order matters. In some question types it need not be mentioned but you have to unde...

If mary takes x apples and (10-x) oranges then, x(40) + (10-x)60 = 560 or x=2. So, there are 2 apples and 8 oranges. To make the average 53 now, mary is keeping oranges. If she keeps 1, then she has 9 fruits and has spent a total of (560-60) = 500 cents. So, average = 500/9. In this way, for 2 fruit...

Hey, x and y are positive but the factor here is that they are not integers. They can be fractions and that is what the question is asking. (1) sqrt (x)>y. Let x=1/4. and y=1/3. sqrt (1/4) = 1/2 >1/3 or y. but x =1/4 is less than 1/3. so x^3 = 1/64 is also < y. So, this is not sufficient. (2) x>y. U...

Lemme have a crack at it.

Since order matters, it must be permutation.

Now, 3 letters can be selected from 8 in 8P3 ways = 336 ways.

Since 36 possible sequences are not assigned to any participant,

Number of distinct participants = 336-36 = 300.

Hope this is correct!

Answer C!
