I still don't see why you can't calculate the odds/probability of getting an all-women jury

5/15 * 4/14 * 3/13 * 2/12 * 1/11

And then finding number of different combinations of 7 men from a field of 10.

I get how to do it the way you explained, but most probabilities have various ways to solve. I'm confused why the following method won't work. Why can't I say the probability of getting a [/u] five-women (don't care which men are on it at this point) jury is: 5/15*4/14*3/13*2/12*1/11*(don't need to ...

Probability clarification

NOTE: MY QUESTION IS NOT HOW TO SOLVE THIS QUESTION PER SE. I NEED SOMETHING CLARIFIED BUT AM USING THIS QUESTION AS REFERENCE. SEE BELOW. If a jury of 12 people is to be selected randomly from a pool of 15 potential jurors, and the jury pool consists of 2/3 men and 1/3 women, what is the probabilit...

Found two typos

i just applied to harvard yesterday and did it all quite last minute. I got everything in 2 mins before the deadline. I dreaded going back to read my essays because I was afraid I would find typos. I found two. I also did not have time to complete the part time work exp section although it is all li...

Thought I'd give one more update. Got my essay scores back and got a 6.0. I honestly did nothing to prepare for essays until 1 AM the night before (early morning of) my test. I highly recommend using the sticky posts under the AWA forum. I'm not an amazing writer so I attribute my score to following...

Specifically, are you referring to DS or PS questions? The reason why I ask is perhaps I should invest some time in backsolving strategies for unusual concept questions. Probably both, but I do think that DS always present a more time consuming challenge because you have to explore multiple possibi...

Can you elaborate a little more on the reason why you think you didn't reach the target of 50/51 in quant? Not really sure actually. Could just be how it went down that day. I think that they throw you a few questions they just take time to grasp that I never felt like I saw during prep. They weren...

760 Q49 V45 Finally done!

Posted a bit on here and then went MIA. Always liked reading in this section at the end of a study sesh so though I'd debrief: I'm a native English speaker, 27, entrepreneur. I'm going to write this on the fly and not worry about grammar/spelling because I need a verbal break!!! PREP So I decided to...

To me all the probabilities are 1/2 (odd or even ) so, I always come to the result 1/16 *4=1/4 which doesn't equal the short anwer 1- probabiblity of getting all numbers odd. I used to get confused about this as well. Perhaps you can think of it this way: You're thinking of the probability of getti...

this question is missing something...

Because you could have x=-100,000 y=100,000 and z=12 which is way bigger than any choice there.

Need more info (are they all positive; are they all distinct; are they all integers?)

I'll take a shot at it and let me know if this helps... Whenever you have a CR question that DOES NOT give the conclusion in the EXCERPT and then asks you to to identify a conclusion you need to look for something that is conclusion material. So often on the CR questions we are asked strengthen ques...

Selango, I don't agree with the answer 24%. You have to divide by 3x at the end to get 8%. You can't have 24% fact by combining two products that individually have 10% and 4% fat contents. It's like thinking that 10 lbs of the lean beef will be 100% fat. Can't do that. So Gurpinder the way I solve i...

I also think that the OA is B. I don't think that you need technical or outside knowledge. The GMAT, however, does want you to FEEL confused So you could substitute the word peat with anything. So you could say "Opponents of apple harvesting in this country..." It will all still work becau...

Here's how I try to look at rate problems where two objects travel in the SAME direction at different rates. The hiker is going 4 MPH and the cycler is going 20 MPH. So when they cross, the cycler begins to exceed the distance traveled of the hiker by 16 miles every hour (20-4=16). Or in other words...
