Hi gmatrant, The application process truly is holistic, and factors like extracurriculars, essays, recommendations and generally presenting a strong argument for an MBA are all extremely important and can change the perception of the candidate in admissions. I have seen the same applicant with the s...

Hi doudou, My generally suggestion for writing essays is to make sure that your writing is clear, concise and reflects who you are. If you do not use a consultant, you should definitely use your friends and family extensively as a resource to read and comment on your essays. I don't personally use b...

Hi tnttijji,

A GMAT score of 640 is a bit low for top ten programs, particularly because your background and work experience is a bit overrepresented in the applicant pool. I would suggest visiting the sticky thread on GMAT and GPA.

Good luck!

Hi Rahul,

I might look at the University of Manitoba and University of Ottawa. For both programs you'll still want to work on the GMAT.

Good luck!

Hi doudou, I don't think CMU is unreasonable for you, especially for the part time program. It's certainly worth applying. I also would suggest trying the GMAT at least one more time, most candidates are able to increase their initial score at least a little. You are in a reasonable range and your G...

Hi NuclearAttacker, From what I understand, you are looking for accounting classes to help you prepare for your CPA exam. It sounds like an MBA is one of a few options for you, because I believe you can pursue an accounting specific MA degree. I think a program like NYU Stern would be overkill for y...

Hi NuclearAttacker, I would suggest gaining some professional experience before pursuing an MBA. You'll be in a better position in the admissions pool if you are able to prove your business skills, especially in light of a fairly low GMAT, and I think it will help you tremendously to refine your car...

Hi Rahul, I might consider India also. The verbal score may not be as much of a consideration in your home country. Another option may be CEIBS in China - the school is not as established and therefore may be less competitive in terms of admissions but is actually fairly high in the international ra...

Hi Jelt, I don't have any personal knowledge of this specific incident. I certainly see where there could be a potential conflict if someone who is actually making admissions decisions is also advising applicants on the side. However, I do not know what the extent of her involvement was. Regarding e...

Hi PhillyFan, It sounds like a good strategy. I would get started on an extracurricular now, I think you can manage your time spent and still be able to have an impact. I think you're fine to apply next fall. By focusing on top 10/15 only you are taking the chance of not being accepted anywhere, whi...

Hi Yuke, That's great news, congratulations on your improved score. Usually applicants do see an improvement, so it never hurts to try again. It sounds like you have a good chance at UCLA, so hopefully that will work out. There are never guarantees, however, even for the "perfect" candidat...

Hi Amber, If you are not currently employed you should use your most recent immediate supervisor when it is time to apply. It's fine if your last supervisor is no longer with the company, it's just important to have a recent boss comment on your work. Yes, your recommenders need to submit directly t...

Hi PhillyFan, I don't think your college experience is necessarily a deal breaker for MBA admissions, of course a strong GMAT score will help. What I would want to see is some significant work experience and achievement after school that shows your maturity, leadership qualities, and management pote...

Hi beingAndNothing, I'm a little surprised about the lower quant score - I would definitely study and take it again. It sounds like you have a lot of good aspects to your background that you can highlight in your application. Managing people is always a good thing, and it sounds like the content of ...
