good question . I was sure about "I" by using flipping . "the king was me" -> me was the king (wrong) "the king was i" - > i was the king (correct) Although was not aware of usage of objective pronoun with NO ONE BUT ... TAKEAWAY for me : NO ONE BUT .... takes objective...

rewrite this sentence as

It was not unusual for a priest during the Middle-Ages to sire a family,forbidden by Church law to marry.

now Forbidden by Church law to marry doesn't clearly refers to priest . so seems erroneous to me. my 2 cents.
