I am curious as I am filling my application forms. I have a very competitive salary at my primary employer, though a complex compensation structure (base, bonus, options and project revenue cuts). However, I have done several consulting jobs on the side that I reported on W2 and paid taxes on. I do...

JB Wow GoingtoHBS/JB, that post came across as a total advertisement for Stratus Prep or whatever they're called. Perhaps the internet has made me cynical but when I see a new person join a forum and their first post is something promotional for a for-profit company, I get a little suspicious. If y...

Hi, I wanted to find out if people have used or are planning to use MBA admissions consulting services? If so, which ones do you recommend and why? Some names I know are: Clear Admit, Stacy Blackman, Veritas Prep. I want to get comprehensive consulting from the beginning of the application process ...

Wow, this is a blast from the past! As you guys can see, it's been over a year since I last posted in this thread. Thanks havok for the bump! Since that time, I've gotten into b-school and I will be starting this fall. The GMAT was the first step (and an important one) in the long application proces...

This is something that is of concern to me also. A younger avg. age is fine but what I would like to know is that what is the max. age they take and what are those profile types? Also, how much of a factor is age in other top B-schools in US? There is no max age and a school would not set one as th...

Yes, these class profiles typically count full time employment post undergrad. You'll be entering with 4+ years of full time employment which is plenty. I'm not sure what schools you are targeting but most students at top MBA programs seem to average 3-5 years of experience which you'll have at that...

I've heared from some people that no matter how good your score and MBA admission profile is, HBS prefers people around 23-25 and if you happen to be around 29 then it will make you little secondry in comparison to a candidate with same profile but younger age? Is this true?? Actually the average a...

That was an April Fools joke and a funny one at that.

Thank you both for your valuable advice. Makes me feel a bit better because I guess the GMAT is something I have control over...in a way!! My dilemma is now whether to sign up for a class... I've been studying on my own for about 6 weeks now and my scores range from 640-710 so with two months to go...

Hi Nick, You have a great profile and as long as you have your story straight, you'll have a fair chance at the top schools. Stacy's recommendation of aiming for 700+ is probably about right. Remember that these schools have an average GMAT score of around 720 so you want to make sure that the GMAT ...

Hi, Can anyone please tell me the minimum work experience required for the HBS MBA program? I will be completing 3 years in July 2011 and I belong to the IT sector. Also, please let me know the application fee for HBS. Thanks! I don't think there is a minimum work experience but typically it's at l...

I also think it's definitely doable to negotiate scholarships even with top schools. After being admitted, you want to make sure that you develop a relationship with your adcom contact and through that relationship, I think it's perfectly fair to talk to them about the schools you are considering an...

Where's the option for "none"? :) Just kidding. While I didn't use an admissions consultant I definitely can see the value that type of service could provide certain individuals. While teams of admissions consultants probably are great since they have people who have specializations in var...

I'm a practicing attorney and considering applying to MBA programs this fall. My question is whether or not early 30s (30-32), is too old for a non-business type to apply to top-10 programs. It really depends on the school. Booth is an example of a school where plenty of older people from non-busin...

Hi Forum, At most of the schools I am looking at, they ask for one letter of recommendation from a current supervisor. Problem: My current supervisor would not look favorably on me leaving for grad school. While I am confident they could write a great recommendation, I am also sure they would purpo...
