Another simple solution: Let Bobby's age now=B and Johnny's age now=J years. So the diff in their ages is=B-J So, Johnny was half old as Bobby is now=B/2 Then, Bobby's age was=B/2+(B-J) As per stem, J=B/2+(B-J) or, 2J=3B/2 or, 4J=3B Statement 1: When Johnny was born Bobby's age was B-J So, B=4(B-J) ...

In a xy-plane, region R consists of all the points (x,y) such that 2x + 3y = 6 . Is the point (r,s) in region R? 1. 3r + 2s = 6 2. R < 3 and s < 2 At first i made it into an y=mx+b equation because thats the form of the equation that i am more comfortable with working with, but then it got too conf...

Without picking numbers it can be solved algebraically as well. Let x be the smallest of the odd numbers <y, so y=x+2 and z>y so z=x+4 {SInce x,y,z are consecutive odd numbers}. Then, x^2+(x+2)^2+(x+4)^2=683 or, x^2+x^2+4x+4+x^2+8x+16=683 or, 3x^2+12x=663 or x^2+4x-221=0 or (x+17)(x-13)=0 Hence x is...

Let the length of the train=d and the speed of the car x km/hr. The car travels from rear end to the front and to the rear end again. Total time elapsed=1 hr, since during this time the train has travelled 1 km. Total time taken by the car=1 So, d/(x-1) + d/(x+1)=1 ( since from rear end to front end...

Root(3-x)=1-root(2x)
3-x=(1-root(2x))^2
3-x=2x+1-2*root(2x)
3x=2*root(2x)+2 ---Eq 1

So 9x^2=(2*root(2x)+2)^2
=(4+8*root(2x)+8x)
=4(1+2x+2*root(2x))
=4(1+2x+3x-2) --substituting from Eq 1
=4(5x-1)
=20x-4

n friends contributed and then n friends told n other friends i.e, n^2 more. So, the total number of contributors = n + n^2 Statement 1: n/(n + n^2) = 1/16 16n = n + n^2 n=15 since n can't be 0 SUFFICIENT Statement 2: 500(total number of contributors) = 120,000 500(n + n^2) = 120,000 500n + 500n^2 =...

Please keep in mind that X & Y both are integers.
So, X/Y=96.12
=> X-96Y=0.12Y

So 0.12Y is the reminder and this is equal to 9.
so Y=9/0.12 or Y=75.

Let the perpendicular of the smaller traingle is z. now, perpendicular of the bigger trianlge is sqrt(25^2-4x^2)=sqrt(21)*x Now since both the smaller triangle and biger trianlge are similar(one angle is 90,one angle is common) so,2x/y=(sqrt)21*x/z so, z=(sqrt)21*y/2 Hence, area of the shaded region...
