So how kosher is it to break a commitment to a school? I guess I definitely feel "dirty" submitting my deposit and saying yes at one school, only to say no if the top choice says I'm in lol. I'm assuming people do this all the time?

Waitlisted at my top choice, but accepted elsewhere

To make a long story short, I am waitlisted at my top school, but I was accepted at my second choice. The admissions committee member whom I had been in contact with told me that I would hear a decision by late April; I need to let my second choice school know my decision by 4/28. Would it be okay i...

People would never think to buy a $150,000 Mercedes without test driving it first, but I'm amazed at the number of people who will attend a school and pay $150,000 without having visited. I completely agree with Money's point; my ranking of schools from my initial research just from online research...

Thanks for the insight, I'll try and add some more useful information. The problem to me was the character limit conundrum; 300-500 characters pretty much allows me to list what I did but without the details. I can't just list details without prefacing what it is, you know what I mean lol. I guess I...

Additional application info for community involvement, etc

I noticed that a couple applications have an additional section asking about community involvement, professional involvement, and honors/awards. A lot of this information is addressed in my essays and on my resume as well; should I bother to put down this information in this section even though it w...

660 isn't dismal at all; it's within their 80% range. When did you submit your application? I'm pretty positive you're supposed to hear about a decision by 1/20; even though others may have gotten acceptance letters, I believe that doesn't mean you won't get one either.

I'm really glad that they scheduled the meeting with the career center; it was really informative in terms of what they did for students in throughout their time at school. It was definitely something that helped me to understand how different businesses recruit at Owen. I highly recommend anyone th...

Yeah....it was really a question of whether I wanted to drive 700 miles to Charlotte and spend the night. That was why haha. If it were in town, I'd definitely go!

They actually determined that for me....I really just wanted to sit in on a class and talk with a student (both of which will be done):). I mean, to me, a career center is one of those things where you actually have to experience it to know if it works. Kinda like taking a pill. Sure, it advertises ...

Campus visit, career center

So during my campus visit, I also have a meeting regarding the career center. Any insight on what sort of questions I should ask to gain the most info out of the career center? Thanks a ton!

Thanks a ton for all the advice! I'm actually pretty far along with the app; I'm still finishing up the essays. Hopefully I won't be too nervous and I'll be able to communicate who I am and what I want to do in my career effectively:).

I guess my other real question is, what is the SOP here? Do most people do formal campus visits before or after applying to a school? I never really looked into the norm, as my thought process was if someone went to visit and totally hated the atmosphere, culture, and living situation, it would have...

Thanks for the advice! I was going to go in there as if it were a real interview anyways. My real concern was whether or not my entire apps needed to be done, I'm just fine-tuning my essays at this point; after some more digging, I finally found it on the website. It doesn't need to be done.....but ...

Campus visit....can you do one without finishing the app?

I'm about to visit Owen (Vanderbilt) next week, and I'm still working on the application. I scheduled the visit a few weeks back and I just realized that I never really researched into whether I'm supposed to have finished the application or not. I don't see anywhere on the school's website that you...
