Thnx for explaining the case when b,d are negative. It helps.
B is the OA.[/quote]
I just got this problem on a practice test and just FYI, the question stem says "a,b,c,d,e are non-negative integers"
Therefore, there is no need to explain the negative for B,D.

This is what I did, let me know where I went wrong ... it looks right to me. First: I reduced the main statement to X^2+Y^2 = 85 Statement 2: x=y+1 I plugged this in to the statement above and got: -- (y+1)^2+Y^2=85 --> Y^2+2Y+1+Y^2=85 --> 2Y^2+2Y-84=0 --> Y^2+Y-42=0 --> (Y-6)(Y+7)=0 --> Y= 6, -7 F...

Why can we not do this for statement 1: Given: W+X<0 Statement 1: X+Y<0 Given --> X+W<0 Statement 1--> X+Y<0 ______ (subtract the statements) = W-Y<0 or W<Y Doesnt that give you a definitive "no" to the question is w-y>0? or is w>y? appears like it does to me ... let me know

Unfortunately, I was unable to follow your explanation sunnyjohn. Ershovici, where did you get "2x^2 and 4x^2" for the lengths of the sides of the widescreen? I was able to recognize that the standard was a 3-4-5 triangle, but I could not figure out how to find the sides of the widescreen ...
