LOL! Do you want to know my timeline? For years I wanted to get EMBA, but couldn't bring myself to sacrifice time with my family to get yet another Master degree. This summer I decided MBA is what I want, so I decided to go back to school full-time. UNC doesn't require GMAT for EMBA for people with ...

I was in marketing class. It was good. Well, I moved to Triangle area 10 years ago, so I am very well aware of the reputation of both UNC & Duke and know their campuses inside and out. Since I will be here after a graduation, Duke's national recognition doesn't do much for me. In fact, locals he...

I had the same experience at UNC few weeks ago. BTW, what do you think about candidates not being very talkative? It was the same during my visit. I was the only one asking tough questions, other candidates were mostly interested in student life type of questions. Weird...

In my F2F discussions with directors of admissions from 3 different schools, I have never heard anything about age discrimination, only on this forum. Yes, I know statistics, but I also do not know of many people in late 30s that will wont to go back to expensive school either, so that factors in to...

I am constantly surprised by the blatant ageism prophesied by MBA “consultants. As a mother who is pushing 40, I am so very disappointed by this discrimination. How in the world is someone who is only 30 years old considered OLD? Everyone else in the world age, maturity and life experience is c...

Adcom and essays
How does adcom read essays? Does one person read all 4 essays one by one; or does one person read essay #1, the other person reads #2? It is so hard to write an effective essay in 500 words, but with 4 essays, I can get my point across. But, to get the whole picture, a reader needs to read all 4 of ...

I have applied to Duke Women's weekend. Just like a minority weekend, they will invite 80 people. I am just curious if anyone has received an invite for either event? Or does Duke wait till the last minute to inform people of the invitation?

Kaplan vs GMAT questions
I just get get my head around Kaplan questions. Does anyone else feel the same way? OG verbal and quantative questions come easy for me, while Kaplan just threws me off completely. Kaplan is very verbose and the verbal is so confusing. I am thinking about ditching Kaplan CAT and quizzes alltogether ...

LOL! Most universities are liberal, so volunteering for Dems is a plus
Before you put that on, do make sure that the school you are applying to has majority of faculity that leans left.

How do you know that Duke invites only 80? I plan to apply for Duke Women's workshop next month. My gut feeling tells me that if they don't invite me for the 3-day infomercial, they will probaby not admit me to the school either.

Too much information asked on admission form
I think that admission forms ask for ridiculous amount of information regarding employment history. Most schools want not only years worked in the company, but months and some even want dates. Then, they want you to type your position, salary when you got in to that company and the salary when you l...

Ah, don't even get me started on this subject. Are you getting 65% subsidy on your COBRA? It runs 9 months, so that should help. Check AARP, the stimulus plan and you should get retroactive discount if your former employer conveniently "forgot" to charge you only 35%. My COBRA is $1100/m f...
