Just got an email alert about this thread - talk about a throwback! haha. Figured I'd chime in and give my 2 cents now that I've gone through the whole process from start to finish: As I mentioned in an earlier post, I was indeed unemployed at the time of my apps, but I addressed it in my essays and...

good luck to you in your app process. normally applying to that many schools is not recommended for many reasons: 1) unless you're super focused, the quality of your essays and apps will deteriorate, 2) if you are applying to so many different schools, it's likely because (as you've admitted) you do...

i was unemployed for 2 months at the time of my application (now 4 months). i didn't focus too much attention to it, other than a quick mention in one of my essays. if you are not involved in any activities, definitely start ASAP, as they will want to see that you are not sitting idly while unemploy...

my guess is the test will just get harder. that's the purpose of having so many experimental questions in there. although probably gradually, the test makers will probably tweak it so as to keep the relative merit of a 700 the same.

there is no way to calculate your score based on paper tests results. the GMAT scoring algorithm takes into account # of questions correct, # of correct in a row, level of relative difficulty of the questions gotten right or wrong, etc. etc. just use paper tests as practice for the content, not for ...

Just a quick question for those out there who have taken the GMATPrep tests, Manhattan CATs, and the actual test. So far I've taken two GMATPrep tests, and I haven't got a CR question wrong, along with only missing 1 RC. However, on the Manhattan tests, I'm only at around 60% on the CR and 70% on t...

i have never heard this, and i highly doubt it this is the case. schools generally look to the GMAT as an indicator of how well you would fare in your b-school academics. they don't care if you are a native speaker or non native speaker - as long as you prove you can do the work.

Hey guys, What is your current dorming situation like? Are you living in the dorms? In one of the "apartments"? Or somewhere off campus? How did the dorming situation get settled? (when did you receive a lottery #, or when were you informed of your room selections?) If given a choice, whic...

a 43 in verbal is probably in the mid 90s, not an 83.% (on the actual GMAT)

hi,

i agree, that's a terrible experience. definitely contact GMAC and ask them for a retake. and, don't worry - if you do much better on the retake, you can always address it on your b-school applications in the optional essay.

GMAT scores are reported in the following manner XXX (Q ##, V ##) the XXX stands for your total overall score. the max you can get is 800. most people try aiming for a 700 to be competitive at most top tier schools. the "Q ##" is your section score for the math (quant). the max score you c...

there's no need to buy more than one of the official guides. i think there is significant overlap between the latest 2 versions (OG 11 and OG 12 i believe) so just buy one of them. mgmat SC is considered to be the best for sentence correction, so get that one instead of the powerscore. i used the po...

if you can get some, i'd take at least 2-3 more full length CATS during your last 6 days. i think your GMAT preptest scores show that you've pretty much mastered the concepts. i also had a 730 on my last full length test before the actual GMAT. i think the difference between this score and a 770+ co...

there's an unofficial 'rule' out there that states that business schools would ideally like a candidate with scores in the 80th percentile in BOTH quant and verbal. a 42 in verbal is quite good, probably closer to 90th percentile. a 43 in quant, however, is not as good. i think its probably in the 6...
