General MGMAT Critical Reasoning Question

Preface: I'm looking for an opinion, defiantly not seeking to undermine the quality of any prep material or anything. I just took an MGMAT CAT and scored as I would expect on the Quant and SC part of the exam. However I scored significantly under my typical average in CR and scored below my average ...

Interestingly enough this is a real happening; it's in reference to the computer proof of the 4 color theorem that some people from UI put forth in the 1970s. Real life knowledge comes in handy!

Oh but yeah I agree that A is the only answer that makes any sense really.

This is a method of reasoning question (the stem "the argument proceeds by" is always indicative of this) and I would almost bet my pants this is an LSAT question because of the complexity of the reasoning and the wording of the answer choices. I don't know that I've seen a method of reaso...

I believe that 'constant' belongs to the set of reals. It doesn't necessarily have to be an integer or fraction (it could be pi or sqrt(2) for example).

OG assumes this is true, although I thought a constant is defined as any number and not a variable. In the following DS question assuming 'r' is a constant makes both statements sufficient, otherwise assuming 'r' can be a fraction makes them both insufficient (I think). If r is a constant and a(n) ...

Me thinks this is a poor question. Is the source of this LSAT or otherwise? The wording strikes me as not being GMAT typical (for example, B says "supports the consideration that the argument includes", what consideration is it referring to? its ambiguous) I would say you could safely igno...

Great question. I don't think that I have seen a stem like this but it is an assumption question. Must be true questions generally don't have a conclusion, and strengthen questions ask for evidence to support the conclusion. This stem asks for information that must exist (ie an additional premise) f...

A strengthen correct answer will always have a positive effect on the conclusion of the argument. So identifying the conclusion should be the first thing that you do. In this case the conclusion is a causal one and illustrates the connection between the ozone layer depletion and the decline of the a...

I agree with the above as far as the answer explanation. Speaking to your questions... (A) This is an inference problem. Note the use of the phrase "can be supported" in the question stem. Typically detail questions will have the phrase "according to the passage" or some such in ...

From the stem b={...-4, -2, 0, 2, 4...} Question is b = -2 or -4 or -6... Attack statement 2 first because, off the bat it seems like it would not work (2) b^2 > 9 b=...-6 or -4 or 4 or 6... Since we get both positives and negatives in our set, INSUFFICIENT (1) b^2 - 4b + 4 < 16 b^2 - 4b + -12 < 0 (...

I'm assuming the stem is (3^a)(4^b) = c I don't think that logarithms are tested on the GMAT but please someone correct me if I am wrong. At any rate this doesn't require logs. (1) 5^a = 25 or a = 2 Adding that to the stem (3^2)(4^b)=c (9)(4^b)=c We don't know what c is so we cannot solve this (2) c...

I think that the combination of Brent's video and the above discussion about points on a line covers most or all of the assumptions that I have ever had to use. I don't think I've ever gotten a practice problem wrong because I did or didn't assume something that wasn't or was true, respectively.

Based on the first point, we know that DS diagrams are not necessarily drawn to scale and we can't rely on the way that they appear. Oh yeah, that is true for the statements in DS questions. I was more thinking of PS questions and the question stem in DS questions which that statement says "co...
