Best thank you gift to give your recommenders?

Hi all, I'm meeting my recommender next week and would love to give her a thank you gift for all the years of mentorship and guidance. What would you suggest as great gifts? I'm striving for something that is not too personal (perfume, handbag, accessories) and not too official (office picture frame...

I think Mitch's solution using weighted averages is, by far, the best way to go here. Brent and Mitch, A little slow here: how do you think of weights in this problem? Are the weights the percents (20% markup and then 50% loss)? if that's the case, then according to the weighted avg formula, the de...

In more general terms: group 1 average----------x-------- total average ----------y---------- group 2 average group 1 will always comprise y/(x+y) of the total group; group 2 will always comprise x/(x+y) of the total group. Once you understand this method, you can solve this type of weighted averag...

Hi! I will be in your boat very soon...prior to making it through HBS of course. I hope you will have time for advice. Congrats!

One thing... I think the videos you are referring to are 'THURSDAYS WITH RON' and not 'ROB'.

That's Ron Purewal and he's awesome!

Hi All,

The download works just fine, but given that this was posted back in 2006, are these notes still as relevant today as back then? Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance! :)

Inequalities + Absolute Value questoin

Is x > 0?

(1) |x+3|<4 (2) |x-3|<4

E

I was able to get the answer but with a bit of guess work. Should one be assuming that x can be a non-integer between 0 and 1?

Thanks, GMATMathPro.

I understand what you're saying. One last question. If one of the statements was that x=(2n+1)/2, the the statement would also be sufficient, but the answer would be that y is NOT divisible by 5.

Correct?

Thanks!

Thanks, guys. I guess then my question becomes one of debating the philosophies of data sufficency questions. The fact of the matter is that x=1/2 IS an option that works in the statement. So in statement 1, since 1/2 is not a factor of 5, the statement is sufficent, as it omits the possibility of a...

Messages not being sent, stuck in my outbox

All,

I couldn't find a more appropriate place to post this, apologies if this is the wrong place.

I have two messages that are stuck in my outbox, when I click to submit, they are still stuck there. What could be the problem?

Thanks!
Aditi

Divisibility and Exponents combined. Please help!

x is a positive number. If 9^(x) + 9^(x+1)+ 9^(x+2)+ 9^(x+3)+ 9^(x+4)+ 9^(x+5)= y, is y divisible by 5? (1) 5 is a factor of x. (2) x is an integer. D I did the problem this way. Factored out 9^x. So we have the equation simplified to: 9^x (1+ 9^1 + 9^2 + 9^3 + 9^4 + 9^5) = y. Since odd powers of 9 ...

My question to you is- How much time should one spend reviewing a math problem? People have different approaches to problems, ...
