640 is not a bad score for a first attempt. What is your score split? Being you are a math major you should be able to score well at quant. I have a 3.37 UG GPA in mechanical engineering from an Ivy. I was struggling with my GMAT before (scoring 640 twice) but this past weekend I was able to score 690 (88%, Q51/98%, V31/58%). I randomly guessed on the first question as I described. And I took another guess at around question 20 (DS). I had eliminated all but 2 and I was guessing between C or E.

I can't tell you whether it would be useless to prepare for geometry and coord. geometry but I think you need to know the concepts. As an engineer myself, geometry comes easy for me. I have more troubles with number properties (inequalities)

You said it yourself that you are in the 80% range and that is all you can ask for. It would be awesome if you have a 760 but you don't so there is no point to worry over it. Paxton, Just want to update you. I took the GMAT again this weekend and got a 690 (Q51 V31). Verbal decreased from 35 to 31 but I guess you can't always get everything. I will be submitting for MIT/LGO deadline on 12/15 and then it is Kellogg MMM and Michigan Tauber. All these are full-time programs...

Haas wants to see you score above 80% in Quant and you did. That is all you need to prove to them your quant sufficiency. No need to take college math course or waiver exam. The statistic waiver is a different story.

I would say real GMAT is slightly harder than GMATprep (I haven't taken a GMAT prep in a month though). I felt the Kaplan Quant. focuses a little too much on comb/perm because I did not see even one comb/perm yesterday and I think I only saw one on the previous attempt. There were maybe 2 coor.geome...
