Hi I took the gmat for the first time in March 09 and wasnt surprised by the low score as it was pretty rushed. x>y? 1) x^2>y^3 2) x^3>y^4 The answer is E and we can show this through counterexamples. Case 1: x=3 and y=1 These values satisfy both conditions, and here x is greater than y Case 2: x=1/2 and y=1/2 These values satisfy both conditions, and here x is NOT greater than y If it were given that x and ...

shouldn't the probability be <4/5? probability = area of region where x-y>0 / total are of region = x/0.5*4*5 = x/10 point (4,4) is where x-y=0. point(4, <4) is where x-y>0. x = 0.5 * 4*(<4) = <8 hence x/10 = <8/10 = <4/5 the point here is that to get 4/5 you would have to take the region where x an...

Here you go... quick and dirty. Hope this helps :) are you sure you can assume all yellow portion is 0. I get 312 but by assuming that only the middle segment (the area in common with all three) is 0 and the other 2 yellow segments total 16%. Am I missing something. Pls let me know if you think the...

IMO D from original eqn if you set x=0 then y<=2 and if you set x = 0, then y>=2 -> this tell us that region R is in the bottom corner of the x-y axis (i.e. in the +ve x and -ve y quadrant). 1. we can set s =0 and determine r value and similarly determine s by setting r=0 -> suff to determine which ...

if the probability that event A will occur is 0.5 what's the probability that event B will occur? 1) the probability that both A and B will occur is 0.3 2) the probability that at least one of the events will occur is 0.8 IMO D 1. p(a) * p(b) = 0.3 -> 0.5 * p(b) = 0.3 -> suff 2. p(a) + p(b) + p(ab)...

hpgmat wrote:if $ represents either addition, subtraction or multiplication. is (5$6)$2=5$(6$2) true for all numbers

1) 5 $ 6= 6$5

the question seems a bit ambiguous but A seems most likely ans.

(5$6)$2=5$(6$2) can be true when $ = * or +

1. $ can be + or *

Re: GMAT Prep Cost Price

When finding cost of A that will be repaid, why you say 20000 + 6.4 ? The stem says that he will pay 20% down payment of the 20000, which is 4000, and finance the rest, which is 16000 plus 6.4 = 22400 answer should be 11,200 the cost should be 20K + 6.4K because even though you don't pay financing ...

hmm interesting question...IMO D?

1. 2(1/m + 1/n)> 1/m ->1/m + 1/n > 2/m --> if m =1 then n<1, if m = 2 then n>2...hence suff

2. 2(1/m + 1/n)< 1/n ->1/m + 1/n < 2/n -> if n =1 then m>1, if n=2, m >2 ...hence suff.

whats the OA?

Re: GMAT Prep Cost Price

Just couldn't understand the wording of this question.. Help pls LA you have to add back the cost of the financing to the original price of the machines and then compare 2*A machine vs 1*B machine. A: 20K -> 16K (minus 20% deposit)->0.4*16 = 6.4 = financing costs -> total cost of A = 6.4+20 = 26.4K...

IMO C median of 13 nums = 30; this means that the 7th value = 30. range of 30 and be denoted by x13-x1 = 30 (where x13 is the 13th term and x1 is first term). to get the largest value of x13 we have to try and get the largest value of x1 and still preserve the condition of the difference being 30 an...

Re: warehouse

pls give your reasoning Always think about what kind of info you would need to answer the question before approaching the statements. 6 people in total so each can be chosen with a probability of 1/6 -> prob of both of them being chosen is 1/6 * 1/5 --> the order in which they can be chosen can vary in two ways hence ans = 1/6 * 1/5 = 1/15 another way of looking at it is that the first person can be chosen in 2/6 ways and then sec...
