Need quick way to solve this DS

What is the remainderwhen a positive integer x is divided by 8?
a) When x is divided by 12 the remainder is 5
b) When x is divided by 18 the remainder is 7

What is the best and quick way to solve this problem?

DS question

If |a+4| = 2 What is the value of a?
1) a <0
2) a^2 + 8a + 12 =0

Isn't that 1) should be sufficient? a should -6 because it is -ve.

The answer is E?

Markup - x * 20/100
Sale price = Markup + cost
= x * 20/100 + x
= 1.2x

M/S = 0.2x/1.2x = 100/6 = 16 2/3

PS -Fraction

Married and self employed = (25% of 156) = 39

Self employed and not married = 70 - 39 =31

Probability = F/T = 31/248 = 1/8

5^21 * 4 ^11 = 2 * 10^n
5 ^21 * (2^2)^11 = 5 ^21 * 2 ^22 = 5 ^21 * 2 ^21 * 2 = 10 ^21 * 2

So n = 21.

Let x be the pay for each month
x/y is the fraction saved for each month
so for 12 months it is 12 * (x/y). This is equal to 3 times not saved which is 3(1-x/y)

12 * (x/y) = 3 (1 - x/y)
so,

x/y = 1/5
