Here is the problem: J working alone can repair 2 sections of trail in r hrs. K working alone can repair 1 section in p hrs. How long will it take J & K to repair a trail 6 sections long if they work together?

So, for the second question, we have both statement (1) and (2) repeating the information given in the question. For those questions, do we just look at the 2 statements' agreeing with the question as a confirmation of the question? Hence, D? Or do we have to look at the fact that they're different ...

The only beef I have with (D) is that the GMAT does not like to use "extreme" adjectives. E.g, "impossible" could've been replaced with "difficult" in order to make (D) a more viable choice. But I see where people are coming from when they choose (D). It is a good answer.
