Great job, Dana!
I think you would make an excellent GMAT tutor, at least in mathematics.

Re: GMAT Prep

In the fraction x/y, where x and y are positive integers, what is the value of y? 1.) The least common denominator of x/y and 1/3 is 6 2.) x = 1 OA E Statement 1---> x/y and 1/3 have a common denominator=6. y (the denom. of x/y) can equal 2 or 6, not suff Statement 2--->x=1, but it doesn't give us ...

The question tells you that C=k*t*l^2 Where C=cost, k=coefficient of proportionality (what you need to find), t-thickness,l-length. So, 1. tells us that k*0.2*4 - k*0.1*4 = 160------> k = 400 Using this information we can find the Cost of the slab in the original q---> C=400*0.1*9 = 360 Same goes fo...

I'd like to pull this thread up and see if any of the experts can comment on this problem. I have the same confusion as scoobydooby has because I think that the problem states that values need to be LESS than 8/9 and 1/8 and if we take the closest values (but less) to these, we get a value less than...

IMO C 1) not sufficient A = -1/2 ---> -1/8 > -1/2 A = -2 ----> -8 < -2 2) not sufficient A = 2 ---> 8 > 2 A = 1/2 ---> 1/8 < 1/2 both together -1 < A < 0 A = -1/2 ---> -1/8 > -1/2 sufficient Not able to understand A = -2 ----> -8 < -2. If A= -2 cube root of A will be greater than -2. Even take more...

IMO E. Statement 1: Can be represented in an equation as 2P+3H=12.5. 2 variables & 1 equation, so not sufficient Statement 2: Can be represented in an equation as 4P+6H=25 ==> 2P+3H=12.5. 2 variables & 1 equation, so not sufficient Together also the statements are not sufficient because the...

Here is another way, analytically. I found this easier and can do it fast as well (under 1 min) let the married couples be denoted as Aa Bb Cc Dd Ee Let us write the 3 spots as below Spot1 Spot2 Spot3 Now Spot 1 can be occupied by any of the 10 ppl so Spot 1 = 10 ways -------------------(1) Spot 2 ...

I think that the catch in the second problem is to realize that x+y=1, then you'll be able to eliminate one extra unknown.

We know that x+y =1 6.5x + 8.5y = C Statement1 tells us that y>0.15, then if x+y=1, then x=1-y And x<0.85, so we can't tell for sure if x is less than 0.8. Can be 0.1 or 0.84 So, insuff Statement 2 tells us that C >=7.30 Then, 6.5x + 8.5y>= 7.3 y=1-x--->6.5x+8.5(1-x)>=7.3------>6.5x+8.5-8.5x>=7.3 2x...

First question: Suppose there 100 projects. Statement 1 tells us that 25 projects have 4 or MORE people working on them. These have to be the upper-end projects, since 4 or more people are working on them. So we know that the other 75 projects have fewer than 4 people working on them, but we can't s...

Re: Division

Which of the following is the quotient of (2^9 +3^9)/35 A. 521 B. 560 C. 577 D. 627 E. 842 B-) Good one. I am sure there should be a easy way to solve this problem. I gave it just 2 mins & solved it manually to get C as the answer. You bet there is. Trying solving it that way. Mind you the numb...
