Original price for an apple is 0.4 dollars, during the sale, 3 apples will cost $1.

Here is my solution:

The original price for each item is a, then the original total price for 3 items should be 3a. However, since we only need to pay for 2 items (2a), so the discount is 3a-2a/3a=1/3=33.33%
