This is how I would approach to this one
LCM: 5 and 7 = 35
5 apart: 5,10,15,20,25,30
7 apart: 7,14,21,28
combined parts: 5,7,10,14,15,20,21,25,28,30
MIN DIFF in parts = 1 {sets of 14,15; 20,21}
ans: 1/35

Re: V and W
The question says IF v and w are different integersravikirancheni wrote:Looked quite simple....but was bamboozled getting it wrong !
1. says v(v-w) = 0 i,e either V=0, or V=w
INSUFF
2.W = 2
INSUFF
Together v = 0 or V= 2 Not solid
So chose E
Am i wrong ?
that makes 1 sufficient as v cannot be equal to w

Re: MEAN was quite mean !
Please check again:ravikirancheni wrote:Where did i flunk ?
It says ..1 SD => from 9.7 to 10.3
That gives us 7 numbers out of 8 i,e 85%
OA : 75 %
The two numbers out of range are 9.4 and 10.5
so 6 numbers in range
6/8 = 75%

My question is: Why can't we have this equation in the form of: 200(x+1/2)=250x ??? Both will yeild the same result There seems to be small error in comparision. You might be comparing the value of x (rather than the final time) from both equations. From 1st equation: x = 2.5hrs. Hence time = 3+2.5...

SOMETHING IS MISSING IN THE QUESTION. All can be integer, if the question stands as it is! 450 = 2*3*3*5*5 450*Y = N^3 hence the value of Y can be (2^a*3^b*5^c) such that (2*3^2*5^2)*(2^a*3^b*5^c) results in a cube of integer that is = 1+a, 2+b, 2+c are all divisible by 3 MIN value of Y : a=2, b=1, ...

Let the stamps with K and A after gift be: K=7x, A=5x
Difference in stamps after gift = K - A = 7x-5x = 2x
Before gift K had (7x+10), as K had given away 10 stamps
................A had (5x-10), as A had received 10 stamps
(7x+10)/(5x-10) = 5/3
21x + 30 = 25x - 50
80 = 4x
or 2x = 40 = Ans

the numbers can be 7 or 77
all the units digits are 7
the sum is 350
that is the units digit is 0
the sum of 7's will give a units digit of 0, if and only if they are in multiples of 10
only 40, in the answers satisfy this requirement
Ans 40: C

cost is in whole numbers is the key
st1: Let the cost of pencil be x and pens be y. Also as they do have some cost we eliminate (x or y = 0)
5x + 3y = 30
only integral solution to this equation is x=3, y=5
SUFFICIENT
st2: 4x + 4y = 32
x+y=8
(1,7); (2,6); etc. More than one solution. INSUFF

approx 1/2: C
area of circle = 10*10*3.14 = 314
area of square = 24*24
fraction = 314/24*24
314 is approx. equal to 312 (312 is div by both 3 @ 4)
312/24 = 13
13/24 = approx 1/2
