IMO E

Author's position - The ban will have the opposite effect

The first is a direct relationship that the author believes will not hold in this case;-->True the second offers evidence in support of the author’s position--> This explains why the ban will not be effective

IMO D

The cells adhere to each other and beat in unision 'yet' adopt sepcialized orientations that are exclusive to each cell.

I think the rest of the choices are either wordy or change the meaning of the sentence.
