This formula is a property of gcd:

gcd(a,am+b) = gcd(a,b)

So in this problem
gcd(z,8z+1) = gcd(z,1) gcd of 1 and any number is 1
gcd(z,8z+1) = 1

This is a pretty useful property. Probability of this being tested is low, but its an easy formula to remember

I dunno if its easier , but 1.5 = 3/2 and (1/4)^3/2 is cube of square root of 1/4 that is 1/8 so we have 8^a * ( 1/ 8 )^a which is 1^a = 1

Option A should be decreasing the operating costs to be parallel(which I suspect should be typo). Choice E though awkward is parrallel.

I agree with gmat009 and mayur. Furthermore dont you think that E is wrong because in this case we need "do". I know more than him -? OK I know more than at that time - > unclear I know more than he did at that time -> clearer. I know more than I did at that time -> clear. As mayur mention...

Here's why A is wrong: "that personal spending in the July-September quarter more than doubled that of the 1.4 % growth rate". it would mean personal spending in July-Sept more than doubled the personal spending of the growth rate. Growth rates do not have personal spending. The second &quo...

growing is clearly wrong. B and C are out.

"which can grow X and is Y" is in parallel form.

"as big as 30 feet long" is wrong usage of "big" when referring to length, so D is out,

E has an unnecessary "it" so is wrong.

leaves us with A. which is correct

This would have been easy if you just check for parallelism in proliferation of X led to Y. X and Y have to be parallel. This means that if X is a noun Y has to be noun. X = cybersquatters -> a noun Y has to be noun. Choice A goes out. In the other choices, there are 2 candidates to complete the par...
