"I am a math PhD with a JD"

Why in the world would you need an MBA??
I thought lawyers and judges make good money!

And you can always do a personal MBA.

Btw 770 is the closes to 800 I've seen. Maybe 780 I recall.

Maybe this might make you feel better! I too missed the GMAT. I was prepared and everything and then just couldn't find the place in Canada (google maps didn't help). Plus I wasn't prepared and wouldn't get over 600. So I let it go. Worked for 2 years studied part-time and then reappeared recently. ...

for 1, if all3 = 20, then how is A i.e. 10% the answer? shouldn't it be 20%?

Let total = 100

100 = 85 + 20 + 30 + 5 – 20 – 2(x)
100 = 120 -2x
2x = 20
x = 10
Yes hes got it right!

Every office has three chairs. So we can 3,2,1, or NOBODY sitting on them = 4 options for each office. We have 2 office; so the answer is 8.
But you can't have nobody and nobody so this isn't correct.

My explanation: *** A *** work = 660 hours = b + 10 rate = a work = rate * time (1) 660 = (b+10)a *** B *** work = 660 hours = b rate = 1.1a work = rate * time (2) 660 = 1.1ab *** solve eqs 1 & 2 for a *** (1) 660 = (b+10)a (2) 660 = 1.1ab (b+10)a = 1.1ab (div both sides by a, I can't solve a at...

Found a good way to solve this algebraically.

Let x be people who left the room, y of which are women.
y/x = 30/100 --30% who left the room are women
(24-y)/(160-x) = 10/100 --people left in the room 10% are women

2400 - 100y = 1600 - 10x
800 = 100y - 10x
800 = 100(x*30/100) - 10x
800 = 20x
x = 40

I worked it out and 15 is right.

Btw, you will want to put brackets on your exponent (x-2) for next time.

Re: tough sequences

How many different 6-letter sequences are there that consist of 1 A, 2 B’s, and 3 C’s ? A. 6 B. 60 C. 120 D. 360 E. 720 B Yes the above is the standard approach. Another intuitive approach is to have the alphabets into 6 slots. A BB CCC For A its 6 c 1 = 6, 6 slots and one A to choose from. For B i...
