In this case, "reduce" and "aid" are not plural because you also have the auxiliary verb "may". This works for singular or plural subjects:

He may run the marathon tomorrow.

Students may use the study rooms in the library.

A good point.

"Recent prolonged slump" means that the slump was recent AND prolonged.

"Recently prolonged slump" means that the slump was somehow extended.

I think it's more that I learned from the best :D

Conclusion: Airlines will purchase many 500+ seater planes. Premises: 1. They currently use the hub and spoke system: large planes bring lots of passengers to hubs, small planes take passengers from hubs to local airports. 2. There is little room for growth in takeoff and landing slots as well as ru...

Yeah, it's a little weird. I think this is from 1000SC, which is not a great source.

We're comparing the grassy fields to the sandpipers. Wait, how can we compare grass to birds? That doesn't seem to make any sense, but we can do it in this case because they share a specific similarity: they are both vanishing.

For clarity's sake: Like the grassy fields and old pastures that the upland sandpiper needs for feeding and nesting when it returns in May after wintering in the Argentine Pampas, the sandpipers vanishing in the northeastern United States is a result of residential and industrial development and of ...

The present perfect "have fallen" would place the decrease in revenue after the past tense "announced". Because the revenue drop caused the announcement, this order of events does not work.

From the stem, you know that you're comparing .6A to 1.2B. If A=4B, simply plug in for A:

.6A = .6(4B) = 2.4B

2.4B is 200% of 1.2B.

Statement 2 gives you A in terms of B. Let A=20 and B = 5.

.6A = .6*20 = 12

1.2B = 1.2*5 = 6

12 is 200% of 6.

Rich's explanation is great. I think this question is a great example of using simple examples (like testing simple perfect squares to see what the rule is) to unlock a harder question.

I'll second David's recommendation. It's what I recommend to my students as well.

Using the "tug of war" method, we can figure out the ratio of X to Y from the stem alone: Y X 2--5----10 5-2 = 3 10-5 = 5 X:Y = 3:5 Now we just need something that will allow us to go from a proportion to an exact value. 1) Perfect! Using the ratio above, we can determine that x is 6 . 2) ...

The bar show year-over-year changes. For example, 2000's bar is approximately 4%. This means that the CPI was 4% higher in 2000 than it was in 1999. 1. Between 2000 and 2003, there were two years at ~5% increase and one year at ~4% increase. 2003 is higher than 2000. 2. Since we see positive changes...
