Hi All,

I am happy that I got a chance to write this short note to thank BTG community, especially Ron, Stacey, Mitch, David and Eric.

I would like to share my experience with all of you but for now, I am unable to type much. I shall soon debrief my experience.

Thank you all once again.
Regards,

Pranay

Great score bubbliiiiiiii!
Although, after seeing your intelligent posts for the past 3 years, I'm not surprised :-)

Thank you sir. Although I am into the 700's, I am quite apprehensive about this score. Is it sufficient to secure a seat in one of the top 10 B-schools?

Please advise.

Some basic information about me:
I belong to the Indian IT Male community, having 5+ years of experience. My undergraduate score in Computer Science Engineering is 74%.

Thanks Sir.

Your posts were also helpful in learning math concepts. :)

As I quoted in the post above, I am not sure how this score is going to help me in securing a seat.

Should I consider re-taking GMAT or go ahead with applications? I am aiming for a B-school (top 10) in Asia/US.

Jim's the best person to field that question. My efforts are focused entirely on helping students ace the GMAT. I know very little about Business School admissions.

Bubbliii would appreciate if you could throw some light on your verbal strategy and sources. As far as retaking GMAT is considered please consider your career goals and deadlines in mind.

Its a good feeling to write one after reading so many debriefs from fellow bloggers. :)

Here we go:

Materials used:

Quant:
1. OG-11/12
2. GMAC Green supplement
3. Questions and explanations on BTG & other web forums.

For quant, I have used the above three sources for both fundamental concepts and questions.

Verbal:

Sentence Correction:
1. Explanations and questions given in OG and blue supplement guide.
2. Manhattan SC guide. (Most useful)
3. E-GMAT free web tutorials. (Most useful, highly recommended)
4. Questions and explanations on BTG & other web forums.
5. Aristotle SC guide for questions.

Critical Reasoning:
1. Explanations and questions given in OG and blue supplement guide.
2. Questions and explanations on BTG & other web forums.
3. E-GMAT free web tutorials.

Reading comprehension:
1. Explanations and questions given in OG and blue supplement guide.
2. Attempted very few (apprx. 10 questions) from RC-99.

The strategy for improving verbal section is nicely described in this URL,

https://www.beatthegmat.com/confused-how ... 82861.html

I am providing the URL because I wanted readers to get first hand information from the original discussion.

Moreover, the attitude on test day matters.

I gave my GMAT after taking a three week break from studies. After the break, I directly booked the slot two days ago and went in to write the test. During the break I was engaged in work at office.

I will soon post my experience pre and post exam.

For now, I think this should be helpful.

Please let me know there is anything else that could be helpful to share.
Regards,

Pranay

Hi Sir and Madam,

Thank you for the confidence shown on my score.

Payal, your posts in SC verbal were most useful in understanding concepts.

Moreover, It would be helpful if you can share few pointers regarding admission process to top 10 universities?

Pranay,
Your verbal score improvement is encouraging.
How did you manage your time on Verbal?

No matter what I do, I tend to take around 2 mins for a SC question and I get it right. I am working on improving SC. Accuracy now is around 76% in OG12 SC.

If I somehow manage to solve SC in 1 or 1:30 mins, I guess I can manage my time well..
RC is another prob area. Mismanagement of time is because of RC..

and you mentioned you took a break for 3 weeks. So those 3 weeks , you did not study at all?
Regards,
Sach

Sachindia,

Interestingly I never timed my responses. However, one thing I used to note was the ease with which I am able to eliminate the incorrect options. This helped me increase my pace on SC.

For RC, this was time consuming for me as well. I, on average used to spend 7-11 minutes based on the difficulty of passage. So, I don't think I can advice anything about this to you. However, I can say that time saved in SC and CR helped me overcome the time lag in RC.
and you mentioned you took a break for 3 weeks. So those 3 weeks , you did not study at all?
Surprisingly yes. I didn't study at all.

If this works for you as well, then fine. Otherwise, I would suggest you not to do it with Quant. The computation speed decreased for me and as a result I scored 3 points less than what I scored in my previous attempt.
Regards,

Pranay
