Reviews of admissions consultants?

by pinchharmonic » Tue Jul 17, 2012 4:49 pm
Is there a thread for previous happy/unhappy customers of all the admissions consultants?

gmatclub has one, but it has no information on many of the consultants I found here on beatthegmat, probably only the ones that sponsor gmatclub are on there.

thanks!

Jim,

I have two concerns that maybe Stratus Prep has solutions for.

My main concern is that I'm applying to the Haas EWMBA program and whether or not I'm wrong about this, it feels like this application is a different beast -- older applicants, more emphasis on work experience, etc. For instance, one company I spoke with has a part-time guru and I feel I'm in better hands. However, the prices of for this company are very high and there are no "in between packages" that suit my needs (my second concern)

My second concern is I feel I'm in between the traditional consultant packages. On the one hand, a comprehensive package would be fantastic and would maximize my application, but I imagine there are many students like myself who might be able to get their best application with 2-4 hours of consultancy. Incidentally, another company has a program that allows you to do a 4 hour consultation of an already completed application. Maybe that application is great and will be fantastic with one round of edits, but maybe not. Well, if not, the amount you paid for the 4 hours goes towards the comprehensive package.

Overall, I feel my situation is a prime candidate for consultation. My "static" numbers are good, but my work experience, letters of recommendation, and my overall story could end up being very weak.. and I know my weakness is actually the core of what every MBA program is looking for, even part-time.

thanks for any advice!

I would also recommend Menlo Coaching (www.menlocoaching.com), particularly if you need focused help on your writing style and getting the right tone, meaning and point across. Feel free to PM if you need more information

After a difficult last year trying on my own, I found MBADream (www.mbadream.in) and I must say that they are excellent. The team there has been there, done that and hence can relate to what an applicant is going through.

The guys there will not write your story from the scratch, rather refine it to generate an interest for the adcoms who review your profile. So, don't assume that you are gonna go empty headed and get everything on the platter right from the start - you should have built some imagination, and what the team will do is to set it straight towards the right choice.

Moreover, in my case, I was under presumption that once my essays are done, I can handle rest of the stuff. But the guys at MBADream constantly push the applicant for perfection and put forth the fact that a consultant is not just to 'edit' the essays but show the candidate a right path and prepare for the ultimate - the start of the education. That's where I believe MBADream scores above the rest. And it's value of money too!!

Today, I have got admits for No.1 school in Canada and four of the top 30 US schools (all with $40K+ scholarship), thanks to MBADream, and I know that my association with the team has just started!!

I have a post here: https://mbagirljourney.wordpress.com/201 ... g-reviews/ where people can review their consultants using an A-F scale over a variety of factors so that applicants can make informed decisions. Check out the criteria and send me an email at [email protected] if you would like to submit one yourself! I will post it anonymously and update the post or you can paste it directly in the comments section yourself. Good luck everyone with your apps!

I worked with a consultant from Aringo.com on my successful applications. Over the course of the process I discovered that the perfect combination of uncompromising professionalism, flexibility, and real personal attention is actually the secret of Aringo's success.
In our shared work I always felt that all the knowledge and resources of the company are allocated to one single purpose - to help me achieve my goals. The personal touch made all the difference, "you caught me" every time I almost gave up on myself and caused me to get the best out of every small detail.
The results did not disappoint (4 out of 4: Stanford, Tuck, MIT, and Cornell including scholarships at some) and every time a school called me to tell me I was accepted, I hurried to update the "partners" at Aringo. I would advise anyone who wants to increase their chances of being accepted at the longed - for school to utilize their unique experience.

Here is m story...

I got my GMAT, and I felt I was almost done, but the reality struck soon and I found essays and strategy and school selection is equally important. Through a friend's recommendation, I set up initial consultation, and thereafter Rahul's guidance set the path towards fulfilling my mbadream. Shortlisting schools, finalising content and reviewing the essays - Rahul took active interest in all my applications, and helped me come up with suitable content. Most importantly, though he is professional, his attitude is friendly. In short, the end result is I received 3 admits and scholarships, one half and two almost full scholarships from top 30 schools. Thanks Rahul and mbadream team, for w/o u guys this might not have been possible.

After considering several consultants, I decided to go with Aringo. The admission process for top MBA program is not like anything I knew before. Not only it is prolonged and exhausting, it's simply conducted in a different language. I wasn't used to presenting and marketing myself, and in this game, where you compete with many other people, who are as successful and impressive as you, Aringo's contribution is substantial.
Starting from building the strategy - how to market the story and ambitions of each candidate the best way possible, selecting the right schools for him and walking him through the application process until the interview. During this process, Aringo's added value will make the difference between success and failure. Their professionalism, dedication and the ability to see the bigger picture is what I'm grateful for. Without them I wouldn't have ended this process with 2 offers from top schools - Berkeley and Chicago.
